NEW! Garrett AT Pro (Updated 10/04/2010 with Video)

Not to mention clean off is just a mater of hosing it down!! I have to say that the AT Pro fits the bill for me ideally. The ability to land hunt, plus shallow water hunt is exactly what I wish to accomplish. The only negative thing I can see about this machine is the depth was a bit discouraging. That being said, this is a VLF machine and 8" -10" is respectable. I would like to see how it handles salt water & beach. I hope to see some footage of that soon.

Once you enter into pro mode, the visual id system becomes pretty much null and void, and you have becomes more of a audilble machine. I am really curious to see field tests with this metal detector, and would really like to see what they could do with a "big brother" version of this.

I've been salivating on this one too. My ideal would be just a little deeper water depth, say 15-20 feet. I snorkel and sometimes go deeper than 10 feet and being restricted to 10 makes me a little wary...I'd hate to need a separate detector to detect just a little deeper (like a hole or recessed bottom area with all those treasures ;)) I am happy to be steering away from multiple detectors, one just a little more specialized for each purpose. I think that idea is nuts. Now if they would just make the e-trac water proof...

I just put my order in. I'll ask for a water proof headset for Christmas from the wife & kids

What would be better than the AT Pro?

Can you list some ideas of what your perfect machine might be?

Maybe deeper depth? What depth is great?

Deeper water depth?

What is going to make the most perfect MD unit for you?

Like you, Runningwater, how many MD's is it going to take before you say, this is the one and only?

What is the perfect MD unit?

My wants are:

I want a unit that can hide trash and hit the coin, gold or silver.

I want a unit that is as good on land as it is in water (fresh and salt).

I'd like the unit to hit a dime or gold ring at 10".

I want my unit to vibrate, just a little, when it has a 85% positive coin, gold, silver hit (% should adjustable). I know you might laugh, but all the gaming controls vibrate and they cost $50. So you'd think a $500+ unit could do the same.

I want a 5 year warranty against leaks on normal use.

I want my MD to have a volume control.

My list could go on. So what's on your list to making the perfect MD?

I've been dying to detect some of the creeks and sallow rivers in my area. This one seems to fit the bill. Do I have to worry about dropping it in the water or getting it wet or muddy? I have very little time on the ACE 250 I have so I can't really give my opinion on it. I do have some time on a Garrett's Grand Master CXIII and liked that machine and had some nice finds with it.

MrXtramean, I totally agree with a metal detector that would vibrate. You could hunt without headphones and with the volume off. How sweet would that be?

He kept it longer than Steve keeps a detector
Hey !!! I resemble that remark but more than likely you are talking about another Steve :lol::lol:. On a serious note 2 hours is way longer than I would keep an Ace.

And when you can't take the bing bong ding dong sound/noise any longer give me a shout and I will send you out one of these for $1.95, its a small price to pay to keep your sanity.

HI, New guy here coming back to the hobby after many years. I am very interested in this detector; I came across a bunch of short videos of guys relic hunting with the AT pro. Not real informative but may want to check it out. I posted the link to the first video, there are a total of 8 by the same uploader.

At first I was wondering why they still made detectors like the Fisher 1236-X2. Then I seen my little 11 year old nephew have interest, and thought it may be perfect for him, wouldn’t be confused by all the buttons, set it and forget it, and not have to read too much

Reserved an AT Pro, had my first significant MD dream...

Alright, I'm officially on the AT Pro waiting list. :run1:

FYI, when I committed Wednesday I was about number 21 on the list at KellyCo, they are hoping to get in 100.

In a related event, I had my first really good MD dream last night, found a cache of gold double eagles. It was hard to wake up from that one! :(

Question: The bundled pinpointer that comes with Kellyco's packages has to be better than the JB Welded/Patched generic crappy one I've been making do with and I've been holding off on the Garrett Pro Pinpointer in case the bundled Automax V4 is "good enough". You guys that have used both, do you think the V4 is good enough to substitute for the Pinpointer until it wears out/breaks or should I bite the bullet and get the Garrett Pro Pinpointer now and keep the V4 as a backup/sell it?

Clayton,
Well, I'll have 2 units and only 1 pin pointer. I ordered the AT Pro and could have got the V4, but it's reviews weren't very promising. You can pick up the White's Bullseye used for $25-50, but the Garrett PP is awesome.

So I bought Option pack 2 that had the Razor Edge Gator Digging Tool and Sidekick Recovery Pouch (8 x 11").

Happy hunting!

The V4 does an OK job, but the Garrett is better. Keep the A4 as a backup. (Don't forget to put a battery in it!!) :)

Has anyone called Kellyco about getting a lower price on a detector without any of the free accessories being included? If so, how much did they lower the price? Also, is Kellyco the only website offering pre-orders on the AT-Pro?

No KellyCo isn't the only place taking pre orders. Most any dealer that carries Garrett products can put you on the waiting list.
