NEW! Garrett AT Pro (Updated 10/04/2010 with Video)

After first reading about the AT Pro here I decided to shoot the good folks at Garrett an email. Here is my email and Garrett's reply:

Hello,

I currently own an Ace 250 and I am very satisfied with it's performance on DRY ground. However, living in Florida near the treasure coast, I do much of my hunting on the beach. I have been doing a little research on a machine that works well on wet sand / salt water and have narrowed it down to 2 machines, sadly though neither are Garrett products and more sadly, they are very expensive.

I came across some info about your new AT Pro on a MD forum that I frequent and while the AT Pro looks very promising, I would like more info on it. How does it perform in salt water? How does it perform on wet sand? Has it been thoroughly tested and bugs worked out? When will it be available?

Thank you,

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

The AT Pro will work great on the wet sand beaches and in the Saltwater. It has been tested and it is continually being tested to ensure that we have the best detector available once it is release in November. It is going to be a great machine, it has things on it that Garrett has never incorporated into a metal detector before. Here is a link to information on the new detector on our website. http://garrett.com/at_pro/index.htm

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks and have a great day,

Brad Keel

It does sound very promising. I will also be waiting for reviews but If it does everything they say it will do I'm on board. It will be a great mid-range detector.

I'll wait for some reviews, but I'm thinking this might be my future unit. Yes, I could save and get a V3i or E-Trac and be overly happy. But I've found enough jewelry with my ACE 250 to know that this next gen MD unit will do the same and hopefully better. I know it will do better with gold because of the higher frequency. I hope it has a bit more depth than their Ace series.

More than likely Garrett will send me one of their At Pro's (for free of course) to test being I am such a great supporter of the Ace and more than likely give me a trip/vacation for a couple of weeks somewhere where there is a salty beach to test it on, more than likely the Bahama's. I will post my opinion of the detector after a few days use & after 10 or 12 of them fancy drinks with the umbrella in them :D. Steve.

I really don't know why I'm waiting for your reviews since Garrett said they are testing salt water and wet sand now and going forward. But like all things said, they don't always pan out (Pan out! )

But I'm sure there will a ton of reviews by MDer's by the end of November and I'll probably get one for myself, gift wrapped for under the Christmas tree.

But most of us won't be going into the water during winter, so the reviews won't be 100% what I'd like to hear. But with LA having 113 degrees now, maybe there's a chance for someone, somewhere to do some water detecting before winter really shows up.

You know, just watch. Other companies will probably follow suit with something close. Whites would be smart to make a MXT ProWet! :p

HAHA yeah! that's a great name "PRO WET"! This would be ideal as i don't live too close to the beach but will travel a little if i had a machine that i could count on working in these conditions-

This IS gonna be a Garrett that Ski Whiz will own. I just got my Compadre and was thrilled with the finds and secretly wished for a Compadre that had it's gold finding ability with all the features of the AT Pro. I sat and sat and waited for Tesoro to make a move and nothing happened. This thing will even find gold flakes. Garrett will have the last laugh.

Pulled this from another forum----

These quotes are from a Garrett moderator for 5 yrs with 23K postings.

"Today Garrett engineers put on a demonstration with the AT for the distributors and blew their minds. This detector will do things that ain't been invented yet. It goes twice as deep as a 250 - will separate coins from bottlecaps, pulltabs, hot rocks - will detect flakes of gold. One can place a dime under a rusty nail, hot rock, or other junk and the AT will hit the dime and ignore the junk. It is 100% waterproof and is even constructed of separate waterproof compartments as a safety measure. And you can hunt in saltwater or anywhere else you choose. There is more info soon as I get it but there ain't no detector no where even remotely like the AT. It's the one everybody has been waiting for and will blow the competition away.

Yeah the guys I talked to that were at the demonstration were beyond excited. I believe a video of the demo will be on You Tube in a few days. I'll check and make sure. I'm supposed to get a DVD of the demo. What users are going to get is a $1500 plus detector for under $600. Old Charlie done it again. They will sell a boat load of these puppies. I can't wait to get one.

According to the engineers at Garrett the AT is the sign of things to come at Garrett. They said they listened to the customers when designing this one."

The talk is out. Now the question is, will there be enough to go around? Probably sell out and be back ordered till next summer. I keep looking for a new video, hope it doesn't disappoint.

All of these claims could be true, but I would have to see it to believe it.

I wouldn't mind trying one but I would put my money (what little bit I have) that most of what they are saying is hype. For instance -

This detector will do things that ain't been invented yet (I doubt it). It goes twice as deep as a 250 (I doubt it) - will separate coins from bottlecaps, pulltabs, hot rocks (no way) - will detect flakes of gold (who knows). One can place a dime under a rusty nail, hot rock, or other junk and the AT will hit the dime and ignore the junk (Tesoro's have been doing this for years). It is 100% waterproof and is even constructed of separate waterproof compartments as a safety measure (probably is). And you can hunt in saltwater or anywhere else you choose (why couldn't you, I could take my detector anywhere I wanted and hunt with it)(it might not work the best in some places but I could still hunt w/it if I wanted). They forgot to mention that it is allergic to pulltabs too .

Alright Steve, why are you pooping on the party that hasn't even started yet!? ;)

I'm not, but after + - 30 years of detecting I know a detector can not tell a pulltab or some rings from a nickel, nor do I believe it will be twice as deep as an Ace 250 or most other detectors for that matter. I figure an Ace 250 should hit a coin at around 6-7 inches so the AT Pro will hit a coin at 12-14 inches??? I highly doubt it. It could very well be a great detector, I hope it will be for all of you's that are going to get it. Sounds like it could put all the other companies out of business :wow:.

Now the only company that needs something new is Tesoro. The Garrett for sure sounds like a great machine and I will probably end up with one because Garrett was my first and machine and they were built like tanks so it will be like coming home again. If Tesoro releases one that can walk on water as well as under it I'm in in a New York second, but they can't even fix a simple connector problem that anyone on this board could solve:confused:, in the mean time there getting way behind while Garrett and the others are moving forward. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Tesoro fan, but this AT Pro is looking mighty fine and will probably get my next MD dollars (depending on the reviews) even with the ding dong bong. Steve is probably thinking I'm a traitor or something.:violin:
