New ace 350 coming out!

The Ace series detectors from Garrett were marketed toward the beginner, and quite well done at that. They offer the options most users want at a affordable price, hence they have sold so many. There are a lot of users that have cut their detecting teeth on this model and upgraded to a more advanced unit once they knew this hobby was for them. Some might even have upgraded to the holy grail "Tesoro".
I will save my opinion on the new unit until I actually see one perform, or lack thereof. But the coil sure looks cool.

FYI - Got an e-mail from Frank @ KellyCo. this afternoon when I sent an e-mail about the Garrett Ace 350:

"Hi Scott,

Thank you for contacting Kellyco. Preorder have been placed with an ETA of mid to late September 2010. Of course, this is subject to change given any manufacturer production delays. That's all I know. We have no details on what it is like, specifications, or price. Stay tune to the website. If it's on the website, it's in inventory, unless it states: "call for availability".

Sincerely

I also sent the same e-mail directly to Garrett and here is their reply:

"Hi Scott,

The ACE 350 will be available for purchase starting September 15, 2010.

Thanks and have a great day,

I would have loved to have seen Garrett make a top of the line model to compete against the big guns. But from a business standpoint this was a smart move. Fewer users are able to spring for a $1,000+ machine.

In this economy they're able to stay in business and keep Americans working by making smart business decisions. I don't see any reason for me to upgrade to this machine, but probably would have chosen this over the 250 if it had been an option when I was buying. I sure this unit will provide many hours of enjoyment for those who get one.

SkiWhiz, the 250 fraternity will jump on this like chickens on a June bug. Real relic hunters aren't using 250s to begin with. Serious coin hunters are not into 250s either. This 350 simply gives the novice surface clad hunter another reason to spend his money. If this person who now owns both (250 and 350) crappy Garret's had simply waited and put his combined savings into a better Fisher or Tesoro, he or she would be able to use a much better machine that is both deeper and far more stable without all the car crash noise going on in their headphones. That Ace sound system is painful and the depth is pitiful.

Ace users save yourself while there's still time. Don't buy a 350 until you get to test one. If you still like it then, well, good luck. I can't save everyone.

God knows I try.

Garret metal detectors are a very well put out machine. Sure I do not own one of these detectors. but I have seen them in action and I can say that they are a machine for which not only the rookies but for the veterans as well. Now as for the depth I have seen the detectors go down a max of 8-11 inches for which is pretty good for a Ace sound system that is painful. In my opinion if you never seen them in action then you should not be gossiping about it.

For me I am saving up for the GTI 2500. And just use the Ace 250 I have as a backup machine. I see no need really to upgrade to a Ace 350.

Hey now.. that's me.. I carry my Ace 250 in my work truck and use it every so often. Very dependable and handy little machine. Perfect for the novice.. The headphones included are a plus and I'll always love those distinctive bell tones.. Brings back memories..

Kid, I've owned one and used 2 others. My hatred of the Ace is well founded. As for gossiping. That's why folks join forums. We're all a bunch of hens.

Lighten up, Kid. Not one adult on this forum takes me seriously at all. Not one. Try to get a feel for someone's patter, their jazz, before you go off.

Now get back at it and say something amusing. I come here for the laughs.

I like my Ace 250 but at the time I bought it I didn't think I would be going out to the beach that often to hunt but I quickly realized that I love hunting on the beach, especially with the potential our treasure coast has. The Ace while great on dry sand falls way short of what I want to do which is get wet.

My next machine will most likely be either an excal 2 or white's surf pi. The white's is a little closer in affordability for me but I want to do a little more research, get more feed back, and more comparisons.

Vettech, this is the second very young person I've had trouble with on this forum. I really think the kids have trouble discerning what's real and what's not. Perhaps this comes with age. All I know is they all seem so very earnest. Like they've been gloved in the face. Everyone reaching for a saber. What a drag to be young.

I don't know OT anymore than the rest you, but if you get a bad taste about what he has to say & how he says it I say stop and listen to what he says, give it some good thought and I bet ya that you will see he is right n what he says. I can see some seeing OT as a sob that is just waiting around to do some grinding but I feel he has been there done that and is telling it the way it is & I happen to agree with him. And this is coming from a young (49 yr. old) man OT.

Thanks, Whiz. I really believe most members pay no attention to me. It is for a handful of like-minded old buzzards I type this crap. We all have our niche readers and members whose stuff we read. If you don't like that I hate on the Ace remember some diversity is essential. Otherwise it's a dreary mutual admiration society. Truth be told - the E-trac is the best detector I've used and Fisher is my favorite maker. Especially the older analog Fishers. Tesoro just happens to be the best value in my opinion and from what I gather reading others, watching budgets and getting value is very important. Tesoro kills Garret in all-around value. So I trumpet Tesoro. Why push the E-Trac when only a few can afford one? And why buy that crappy Ace when the proletarian Cibola destroys it in depth and stability and simplicity of use?

Thanks again, Old Town

Old Town you are so terriable! I am a Ace owner and now I am going to cry. How could you be so mean?

Nevertheless I plan to get a better machine. This will have to do for now. When I first started out Metal Detecting..... I had a Tesoro. This Ace 250 is actually my first machine from Garret.

As an educator, you need to learn to stand up to bullies and not let them kick sand in your face and take your girl. ;)

Felix, you being a learned man, you'll know where this little ditty comes from. It's for Utah. For whom I've "been so mean". I love Utah. He brings out the poet in me.

Remember Dunderbeck? The sausage man and his machine? To be sung to the tune of the "The Laughing Policeman."

"Dunderhead oh Dunderhead, your brain is much too lean.
I told you you'd be sorry for buying that machine.
Now all the seated dimes and rings will never more be seen.
They'll all be safe and under ground of Dunderhead's machine."

We used to sing this song in grade school. This is only the second stanza. Keep talking up the Ace 250 and I can't be responsible for my rewrites of old classics.
