New ace 350 coming out!

Interesting dilemma - could see a surplus of used 250's being sold off as people will upgrade to the 350?

I don't know enough about MD's to know if the extra $100.00 MSRP justifies the extra "features" of the Ace 350. I already have a pair of headphones and if the new fancy coil doesn't bring about any valid reason to upgrade... there's probably no reason to wait for the 350. :?:

Agreed . Im a 250 user and fan , because it has just the right amount of features and usefulness for the price and it works good , but add another $100 to the asking price and I would never have paid it. I was looking forward to a new and improved version that addressed and fixed some of the shortcomings the aces have , if they did that then it would truly be an awesome machine. But I am disappointed with with what is basically just a 250 with a different coil. Seems more like a gimmick to sell the same old detector for more money. Needless to say , the 350 is probably gonna be a big flop for Garrett. The word that comes to mind is "cheap" , but not referring to the price.

Being a Ace 250 user.... I see they have the Dime and Quarter on the same ID segment..... Which I can understand this..... When a dime or quarter is under the coil it rings up the same. In most cases not all the time.

It does not mention what the Zero mode is yet. Anyone have a clue?

I have never had a dime ring up the same as a quarter , or a quarter as a dime , so its a mystery to me. May be the effect of the soil in your area.

wow, I like. I can't wait to hear reviews on it! Who will be the first to get one?? lol I just might have to upgrade!

Ace Marketing

I don't think this will be a flop. In fact judging by the majority of posts I see on the different forums people are salivating for the most part. I bet Garret sells 10 billion of them.

To me the 350 is just a Ford Pinto with a bigger gas tank. Does not appear to be anything but some chintzy headphones and a bigger coil for an extra 100 bucks. The machine's "box" doesn't have enough horsepower to drive the original smaller coil, the larger coil will be a flop but will look nifty failing. Nifty sells.

Try a Cibola or an F4 for the same money. Try one of the low-end Minelabs. Anything but this yellow pig with a new bow in its hair.

Not trying to shoot down your post but after looking the detector over I dont know what Garrett is thinking. Still no volume control or ground balance , and except for a slightly higher frequency and different search coil its basically an ace 250 that costs 100 dollars more. All things considered , I think there are much better relic detectors out there in that price range. Not a good way to stay competitive. But thats just my opinion.

slightly higher frequency and different search coil - still a fairly low frequency @ 8.25 kHz 10kHz or 12kHz would of been better in my opinion.

its basically an ace 250 that costs 100 dollars more - true but look at it this way, its like getting a bigger coil and they are throwing in a free detector. Most coils costs around $100.00

I think there are much better relic detectors
- I am sure there are.

I way I see the Ace thing - Garrett came out with the 250, it has made enough $$$ that all the people of a small city could of off of just the interests of the money of what the 250 has made. Now they add a couple very minor things and call it the 350 and of course many people will eat this up & Garrett will make another ton of $$$. More than likely in the near future they will come out with the 450 with hopefully an improvement feature (manual ground balance adjustment) and sell another pile of detectors. By the time the 450 comes out the cost will be as much or more than Tesoro Tejon, so just save your $$$ and get the tried & proven Tejon, it will do it all and it comes with the best warranty in the business.

And if I win big enough I will get you one of these to travel with it :p

Just don't get hit from behind while you drive it!

At first there may be a rush of sales since its "new" and people go for that , but as time goes on I think people will actually start to realize they can have the 250 for less money and still have pretty much the same detector , something that current 250 users pretty much already know. Something that puzzles me though is they went with a higher operating frequency on what is being called a relic detector. Its common knowledge that lower frequency tends to work better for finding deeper targets , like relics , while higher freq'
is better for small or gold objects. Is it just me or does it seem like one step forward and two steps back ?

Those pintos were actually pretty good little cars for their time. They got a bad reputation for the gas tank issue but Ive seen plenty of them that were hit in the rear and did not catch fire or explode. It says a lot for a car that you can still see them on the road even now after all these years. There are plenty of small cars these days with the tank in the same place and they are not even built as solid as the pinto was.

Chris, I happen to like making fun of the Pinto but actually like the body design for its day. That photo of the Pinto with the wheelie wheels reminds me of a Pinto a man in KW had in the 70s when I worked at a gas station. He'd stuck a blown V8 in one and somehow managed to make the car look somewhat stock except for the hood air intakes and some torsion bars on the back wheels. The car was innocent looking and could simply fly. He had to put the driver's seat back about a foot to make room for the motor and new fire wall. It was fun to see that car rumbling at red lights.

What the 350 Ace needs is a Cibola stuffed into the yellow box like that Pinto. Now that thing would go!!

Just a sales gimmick I think as most that will buy the 350 will be newbies & many of them won't have a clue about frequencies. I can't see many of the old timers that relic hunt going for one of these.

This might just lower the 250's price. Such a shame, just got my 250 new just recently...

SkiWhiz, the 250 fraternity will jump on this like chickens on a June bug. Real relic hunters aren't using 250s to begin with. Serious coin hunters are not into 250s either. This 350 simply gives the novice surface clad hunter another reason to spend his money. If this person who now owns both (250 and 350) crappy Garret's had simply waited and put his combined savings into a better Fisher or Tesoro, he or she would be able to use a much better machine that is both deeper and far more stable without all the car crash noise going on in their headphones. That Ace sound system is painful and the depth is pitiful.

Ace users save yourself while there's still time. Don't buy a 350 until you get to test one. If you still like it then, well, good luck. I can't save everyone.

God knows I try.

 There are some of us who have had the other brands/models and still like the 250. Its noisy , thats for sure but it does have decent depth. I think most 250 users that have had them a while will notice that the 350 is no upgrade and stay loyal to the 250. The next logical step in an upgrade is to a mid or upper level detector , not another entry model. Its always fun to read your posts old town , not biased at all

I'm wondering if that coil will work on the 6.5KHZ Ace 150/250 models.
Looks like the existing Ace coils will work going up, but that doesnt necessarily mean the same going down.

Dont count on it , the 250 is still the best choice of the 3 aces and at the right price. I think its gonna stay just as popular as it always was and remain their flagship entry level detector. After the buzz is over I expect the 350 to be discontinued or redesigned. The 350 might get by on the popularity of the 250 for a while but there is not enough difference between the two to justify it , I could be wrong but thats how I see it.
