Kellyco?

:lol::lol: This forum is a labor of love and not a business. We try to break even on the costs of the server and network and our sponsors pay a ... pitance for a banner here, unlike some other forums that are run for the money.

....Rudy is correct....The price of the ad banners here is nothing compared to other sites......The owners here get what is paid by the companies to advertise and also what DONATIONS, hint hint, , are given by forum members...They take this and pay for server time and maintenance......I'm proud to say I've donated....Why?.....Because what this Forum stands for and it's the right thing to do....All brands, all models and all members are equal...Unless you get out of line...then you get special treatment..:censored::censored:

It's very possible that money has been paid by this forum's owners to get higher search placement. Higher placement means more members, more members means more expensive advertising space. it is what it is, and certainly nothing wrong with it

:crackup::crackup::crackup:

That's pretty funny...

Like Rudy said its a labor of love and may I add dedication from all the mods and admins to run it this way...and of course Carol and Vlad for letting us help them out and for them to have them trust us with their forum...

I've bought from Kellyco and had no problems. They are a local store for me though and while I have ordered from them online, it was not an expensive order where a thorough examination and testing of the product would be warranted.

When I bought my detector and propointer, I went to the store in person, asked questions, held and played with a couple different models that were within the range I was willing to spend. The people I dealt with were very nice and knowledgable and I felt comfortable with my purchase.

I would and do recommend Kellyco.

Can't say anything bad about Kellyco. I have purchased from them twice with no problems. Items were packed well and shipped on time. The customer service folks were great to deal with.

Mark

I'll rate them neutral.....I've spent a couple thousand bucks with them. First order went off as advertised so I decided to use them again. Second time around a high-end detector was being advertised as "In Stock", and the next day I recieved an email telling me it was "Out of Stock" BUT I would have it within a couple of weeks. The couple of weeks came and went and after many many emails and phone calls I finally recieved it after more than 30 days........(1) Dont advertise something as "In Stock" when it isnt. (2) Be upfront with your customers instead of stringing them along so you dont lose a sale (3) Get rid of your customer service represenitives who dont know their hind end from a walnut tree and lie to customers. Other than that, I'll be thinking of doing business elsewhere next time.......

I don't want to hijack, but i can't understand what is so funny?

I never said the owners of this forum were getting rich off ad revenue, all I said was it was very possible that they are paying for search engine placement to get more members and be able to attract advertisers and generate more revenue. Maybe they still don't break even, maybe they reinvest every nickle, maybe they will be named in the next Forbes 500 richest web tycoons edition. I have no idea, nor did i ever mean to imply that i did. Regardless of what you charge for an ad or what you do with the money, nobody will pay it for a site that gets no traffic, and few will pay much if a site isn't showing growth. So all I ever said was it is possible that they pay for search engine placement. What is so crazy about this? Does that make it less of a labor of love?

For most of you here, I imagine you consider MD'ing a labor of love as well, but I'm willing to bet some of you sell some of your finds. I'd even be willing to bet that a few of you have actually turned your hobby into a steady source of income. Does that mean you love it any less? Do you stop picking up coins once you reach a certain amount each year for fear your friends will think you "sold out"? If you really did it souly out of love, wouldn't you find the stuff, take a quick picture and put it right back in the ground , so others who shared your love can experience the same joy in finding it that you did!?!?!

Implying that i'm crazy for thinking the owners might have paid for search engine placement would be like me saying you are crazy for selling some of your finds, or even taking them at all. Nothing wrong with turning even a small profit from something you love and would probably do anyway. that's all i'm saying and the only reason i mentioned it was someone made the comment that this forum was easy to find on google and they didn't think the placement was paid for. I was simply trying to add to the discussion, but maybe being new here i am feeling a little defensive, especially when the moderators are critizing my comments as well.

Nobody implied that you are crazy. Craig and I thought your comment was funny.
That is all.

why would anyone complain about the freebees? Some companies sell you the very same detector and give you nothing at all extra. I got a first texas 2000 on the bogo for my son for less than 150 and it's a fairly good detector. No one else would make me the same offer for buying a 398 dollar detector

You said (Get rid of your customer service represenitives who dont know their hind end from a walnut tree). I agree with you 100% not just with KellyCo but with any business. Get this - As many of you all know I have been a long Tesoro user, and have had great luck with their products. I have called the factory a few times over the years and everytime I called one of the owners (Vince or James) have answered the phone and answered my questions, etc. I am now using a Minelab Musketeer XS and I had a question (nothing wrong with the detector just a question) and decided to call the factory. I called the factory and a lady answered the phone, I asked her my question and she replied " Good question, I honestly don't know I have never used a detector before, give your name and telephone number and I will have someone call you back. It has been around a month or so and still have not heard from them. Would this keep me from buying another Minelab detector if I wanted to try one - No. Does it bother me that she didn't know anything about detectors especially Minelab's - Yes. Does it bother me they never called me back - You better believe it. Steve.

Mr. Chips... no reason to get defensive... like Rudy said it was just funny... maybe not to others but to us because of that paragraph I quoted of yours... this site would never pay out any money to get higher up in a search engine or whatever... it doesn't have to.. the membership gets us up there...

Great members and hard work got us where we are today... simple as that...

edited to add... sure I sell my finds... why shouldn't I? If I die do you think my wife is going to sprinkle me in my casket with gold rings I have found? I think not... I think she's going to Disneyland

It is hilarious to even think that someone has a steady source of income just detecting parks beaches and tot lots. I have worked myself to death for about 2 dollars per hour...I know I find the occasional gold ring and make a cool hundred, but they come to rarely to make a living. I would starve trying to make a living doing thiis.

Hey Craig not to hurry anything along but tell your Wife that I have never been to Disneyland . I had to come back to this post and apologize, even though I was just kidding with ya, it wasn't nice of me to say such a thing, may you live a long long time. Sorry Craig.

KellyCo is good and most other online dealers.

The things that set the dealers apart is speed of delivery and service after a sale. Today most are good at getting the machine to you. The problem comes when something goes foul.

I started buying again from KellyCo in 2005. I didn't have any issues so all is well.

In 06 I bought a pinpointer from a major online dealer in New York and the thing was bad from the start. I contacted him and he sent me the address to the company so I COULD RETURN IT.

I returned it with all his info and today I'm still waiting to hear back from them (4 years).

To cut to the chase--KellyCo would probably be a good bet today.

Do you get the impression that most online dealers don't stock a lot of the equipment they sell? I have been looking around, and I get the impression that a lot of them simply dropship, especially the higher dollar stuff.

The freebees aren't really free (neither is shipping, which is why a lot of dealers will ship the detector for free, but charge overpriced shipping for the free stuff), it's just a dealers way to get around the MFG's regulated pricing. If the "$314 worth of free stuff" cost the dealer $20, I'd MUCH rather get a $20 discount rather than a bunch of crap I don't need and fully expect to break the first time I use it along with the other stuff. I'd rather get a $20 coupon to be used on my next order. Not only would I be able to use it on something i actually want, but it would also force me to come back and purchase from the again, giving them the chance to sell me a qualitity item of my choosing that will give me a more favorable impression of them and the products they sell.

Before ESPN made it popular, people used to say the same thing about playing poker

Maybe someone should pitch a new reality show to the History Channel. They could put it on right between Pickers and Metorite Men!

Back in the 70's and 80's some made a living at metal detecting but that meant being out hunting everyday... I have a video that Carol and Vlad sent me of two guys who made a living of their gold finds... back then water hunters could pick up over 50 gold finds over 2 days.. its not like that anymore but there are still unhunted places where one can make great scores... I'm hoping to hunt two of these places come fall...

If you get nothing, no discount and no nothing from the competitor, then why not get something rather than nothing whatsoever. I got a free pinpointer,. Doesn't matter if it really wasn't much good I sold it on ebay for 27 bucks and I did request free shipping on everything and I got it. The 99 cent shovel is good for passing dirt in front of the coil and i still use it for that purpose. I go with whoever gives me the most for my dollar spent, in whatever fashion I can get it.

Buying overseas

I'm gonna buy overseas. It's called the USA. 'Cos I'm in Australia, but hey, I'll give you foreigners a go...;)
