Kellyco?

What cracks me up about online dealer sites is every detector has like a super rating by comments. Its like there are certain people that say

"Ok today I'll be the 5 star you be the 4 star and Joey... you be the 3 star"

Comments: Its the bestest of the best, I've found Jimmy Hoffa with my detector it is soo good...gee golly thanks (insert online seller here)!!!

The Viper couldn't find a quarter if it was duct taped to the end of the coil...that is if you can get it to even work, but read its comments on the online dealers site and you would think its worth the money.

I might need to start leaving REAL comments on these Online dealer sites to tell the truth about some of these detectors soo new people getting into the hobby wont get garbage as there first detector.

Thats good.

Harsh?

If I had the time to explain my bad experience with Kellyco you would understand my feelings. I would NOT recommend them after the way 2 of there employee's acted like jerks because I had to return the Viper MD to them twice, a week after recieving the thing. Trust me I was made to feel it was my fault the Viper was a POS. I returned all my stuff and got my money back.

I'll stick with local MD Shop now where I know the person and can test the detector out in person as well. Anyone wants to use Kellyco more power to you, I'll pass on them no matter what there giving away free/discounted.

LOL Skiwhiz dude that looks sweeeeeeeeettttt and free socks to boot. Where do I send the check?? OOh and do you have size "chicken' for my leg socks??

I'm not trying to be a HA here but if you purchased a Viper then you didn't do your homework (research) I'm sorry... if you want to find gold and other stuff beach hunting then you spend what you can afford and not purchase a bottom of the line detector... if you had come here and asked this very question you would have been told to stay away from that detector... like a friend of mine said... it couldn't see a volkswagen under a wet rug...

I am not putting down KellyCo or anyone else but I beg the difference with you Craig when you said - "Believe it or not some people don't want to make a huge investment in our hobby like some of us do and these cheap over seas detectors are perfect for them". There are "real" detectors very inexpensive (such as the Tesoro Compadre and some of the Bounty Hunters plus many very good used detectors on this and on other forums at a great price for example) that will work and work very well so that a new person to the hobby will not become discouraged with a detector that isn't worth its weight in salt. In my opinion I find it almost a crime for any place selling cheap over seas detectors. I suggest everyone try a set of these pictured below - all you's interested in trying out one of these just send $699.95 plus $19.99 shipping to SkiWhiz 123 upstate New York mention the word "Sweet" and I will send you a free pair of knee high socks to cover your legs if they are ugly, lol. Just having some fun don't get mad at me gang. Steve.

Your opinion is noted but obviously someone is buying them because they are still being made and sold by many companies... all you have to do is see the multitudes of them on ebay... so its not just Kellyco... and as I said in my last post someone who doesn't do the research shouldn't be upset with anyone but themselves... you have been here a longtime and you know we are here to help those new to the hobby..

I agree with that, but the problem is I had no clue about this site and I bet for the most part new people wanting to get into the hobby does either.

Add the fact I was on vacation and saw a guy detecting a beach and thought that was a cool hobby I will try that out but had no computer just had a phone number to kellyco given to me by the guy on beach.

I called asked about prices and asked about what the guy on beach had..Excalibur (out of price range) and guy on phone was getting upset that I was asking soo many questions and said

"Just buy this, it will get the job done just the read the manual that comes with it and when you get home look up our site we have all the info about detectors on our site, soo customer can compare BEFORE they call. I'll just order you this one and send it back if you don't like"

I took a leap of faith thinking he knew better then I did....FAIL!!!!! But hey live and learn. Too each his own.

I had been a long time dirt hunter and like you I saw a guy beach hunting and saw some of his gold ring finds and 6 years ago I stopped dirt digging and became a waterhunter only... but I researched before pulling the trigger on a detector...

A good site is this site and its part of this site... Carol and Vlad started it and its pretty decent...

Thanks Craig, I never knew Vlad and Carol started that site, I think it is a great place to read reviews. I have been going there for along time, I even posted a couple reviews there myself.

Yes you are correct, this is a great place to get help for newbies and old timers like me.

Kellyco- I had a negative experience but they made it right

Some of you may remember that I had ordered a sand scoop (twice) only to have it on back order. When I contacted Kellyco, I was informed it was out of stock since January (when I placed my first order that I cancelled at the end of February).
Anywho, Kellyco contacted me and resolved the issue to my satisfaction and quickly- I had the scoop within a few days.
It was only AFTER i did business with kellyco that I realized a couple of things. Yes they have a HUGE web presence, but they still are a relatively small operation. They carry a lot of merchandise and many lines of detectors, but I suspect a lot of it is drop shipped on demand.

Bottom line is that I would do business with them agian.

KellyCo is a GREAT company to deal with as I have had several transactions & all went smooth!! Tech. support is also very good as even if You did not buy the item from them ..."like a coil" they will send You the nut & bolt etc. if they have it!

I don't think this forum is hard to find at all.... I came here because it was the first one I found. Do a google search of " Metal detecting forum" and we are the first one to come up. I don't think any money has been paid to get us on top... just popularity I guess. It is a shame that we don't do enough research when buying a machine...I've been guilty of it myself. However, I'm ultra-satisfied with my foreign Minelab E-trac, as I was with my USA made White's DFX. You definately get what you pay for, and in this hobby it holds very true. Granted, there are plenty of less expensive machines that produce nicely, I have experienced first hand how a top end machine will smoke a low end machine nearly every time. It doesn't take a high end machine to have fun though... I remember a fella a year or so ago, good ol' Mr. Nugget, who had the NatGeo toy detector...he was tickled pink finding nails and change in his driveway with it.

Just an observasion from a newb

I see a couple posts in this thread that mention getting a better price by passing on the freebies. When I decided I wanted an Ace 250, I was going to buy from Kellyco, but I wanted it now! Plus almost all the online dealers(including Kellyco) say they have free shipping on detectors, but actually charge shipping on the "free" gifts. There are no local dealers to pick one up so I found a nearby online dealer, hoping to get it quicker. I called them to ask if the free shipping included the gifts. Not only was that a big yes, but he also offered the 250 by itself for $179. If I remember right that was on a Thursday evening and the 250 was here when I got home from work the following Monday. I did have to pay sales tax as the dealer and I are both in CA.

One of my first posts here was about this great deal. I immediately got a pm from a member that is a Kellyco employee wanting the details of the dealer and the sale. Because the $212 price is supposed to be set in stone by Garrett.

Hope you gave them the correct info.

the distributor can sell anything they own, at any price they want ( even at a loss). And a MFG can open a new or authorized dealer, or stop selling to an existing one, even one that follows the rules.... Manufactures and dealers often enter into an agreement that involes Minimum Advertised Price (commonly called MAP or MAP pricing). That is why every ad you see has a certain item at the exact same price, and a lot of times, on the web and even in the sunday papers it will say "call for price" next to a computer, or tv. It is also why you will see free stuff given away with a purchase, but nowhere in the ad does it say" we will sell it cheaper if you don't need/want the swag" even though most dealers are happy doing this, since all the free stuff cost them money anyway. Most manufactures pay dealers for advertising on the dealers website (or in their print materials). If a dealer violates the MAP agreement, the MFG doesn't give them their co-op monies. it's kinda silly, but (many of) the dealers just want to move volume, and the MFG knows that the more something cost, a higher amount of quality is percieved by the consumer. it's a never ending stuggle

It's very possible that money has been paid by this forum's owners to get higher search placement. Higher placement means more members, more members means more expensive advertising space. it is what it is, and certainly nothing wrong with it

:lol::lol: This forum is a labor of love and not a business. We try to break even on the costs of the server and network and our sponsors pay a ... pitance for a banner here, unlike some other forums that are run for the money.

Quote - the distributor can sell anything they own, at any price they want ( even at a loss). This is not 200% true, I know Tesoro has a set price that all delars, etc. can sell their products at. If I was a dealer and the set price of a detector was $225.00 I would have to sell it for $225.00 even if you are my Brother,Sister,Wife,Husband,or best friend. I could if I was a dealer give you the detector for free but if I was selling it I would have to sell it at the price they say to sell it at. I congratulate Tesoro for doing this and feel every detector manufacture should do the same, it makes the playing field fair for everyone, the big guy and the little guy & everyone in between. Steve.

Hey Rudy you ever think about being a car salesman while you are on your way to the bank with all that money you make here . Just kidding, like you say this place isn't to make $$$ it is to help one another (and I feel it is doing just that, lots to be learned here for the newbies & the old timers), great forum :good:. Steve.

I also got a slight discount from the advertised price. I had an internet coupon from a previous purchase I had made from the dealer which I used. I also got a few bucks off by asking for it, saying I didn't want the freebies. I also know that retailers pay a small percentage to the credit card companies on each transaction. The dealer took that percent off because I sent a check and was willing to wait and have it clear. And lastly, the free shipping thing, I also saved a few more bucks by asking that it be shipped the least expensive way. By not being in a hurry, I still got my stuff and saved some bucks off of the advertised price.

I admit it, I'm cheap!
