F2...final impressions below,......

ok, larger coil=greater depth, more ground coverage, but less
descrem right? Thanks for the response.

Large coil: Good
Better depth in ideal conditions
Cover ground faster (but more likely to miss small items because you tend to not overlap swings as much as with a small coil).

Large coil: Bad

Can't pick out good targets that are close to bad targets
Can't get close to fences, swingset posts, other large metal objects
Can't discriminate as well in mineralized soil
Harder to keep level when swinging
Heavier (and this really DOES make a difference when you swing it for extended periods of time)

This morning a member asked for some information on rings, so I thought I would get off my lazy butt and take a couple of pics because a picture is worth a thousand words, as the say.

Seems to be helping and opening the eyes a bit of some newer owners of this wonderful little machine so you can read it here...

The picture below is some air testing results on several rings, gold and silver.

Edit...

Well, someone finally took my advice and dug a zinc signal that they might not have before.
Top left gold ring and the "Z" word in the picture got in his head and stayed there.
I will bet a ton more dug zinc signals will be in his future.

Thanks a ton for the info in this thread guys!

I just ordered an F2 3 coil package because of what I've read here, and YouTube demo vids.

Oh yeah... I'd still have my old avatar if it weren't for digging zincolns.

I don't have a 4" coil, but I did throw a quarter down on a square nail after knocking out iron. Guess what... No quarter!!

Hahahahahaha. A Rightfielder.

And you forgot:

Your house might have an entry door on the second floor...with no stairs.
Your state bird is the Asian Tiger Mosquito.
Women all look the same....like snowmobile suits.

I could go on, but...

I'm really looking forward to the F2 addition. My MPX works quite well, but the F2 operates on a lower frequency, and might well prove to be better in several different situations. Around here my soil conditions vary from highly mineralized sand, to clay, to several feet of peat, to black topsoil. And at the moment, not unlike several parts of the country, we are rain saturated, making the hunt even more interesting.

My family liked baseball.

I sat all over Tiger stadium growing up.
Ever sit up on the little third deck along the first base side?
Great seats...till the sun got to just the right place then it turned into a microwave.

My favorite seats were in the outfield bleachers...right field, just behind Al Kaline.

50 cents a seat, in the 60's.

Once, and I will never forget this...I watched him pick up a ground ball on the warning track at about the max 325 foot mark, and threw a literal "frozen rope" to home and got a runner out cycling hard trying to score.

I don't remember it bouncing, and it came in at just about a perfect strike over the plate, the way I remember it, anyway.

What did he make,,$65,000 a year?
This generation has no experience watching sports when athletes played drug free and for the love of the game, and not with all the drama we have today.

Yep! I remember those days!
Al Kaline, Mickey Stanley, Don Wert, Jim Northrup, Bill Freehan, Willie Horton, Norm Cash, Mickey Lolitch, Denny McLain........
I have vivid memories of sitting in the first row right behind the duggout. I still have a program from a game I went to in '68.

Slight setback on the F2.......it's on back-order 'til they get more next week. :crying:

Ahhh...the wait...an extra long one too.

It will all be worth it when you dig up your first piece of treasure!

Some great info here. If I can get myself motivated tomorrow I'll get out my old coins, including gold dollar and silver dollars, and air test them with my F2 and post it here. Been meaning to do that anyway so this gives me an excuse.

That will be interesting!
Can't wait...I might have passed up a gold dollar, but, I sure hope not.

Found one of my best things yet with the lil old F2.

Not a coin but very cool nonetheless, especially because it is dated.
Hard to find much info on this huge token so I am guessing it could be pretty rare.
Insert happy dance here.

For once, I happened to be in some kind of weird area in a park that had nice black old fill dirt instead of the clay and rock filled red stuff I am so used to.

This thing was 4-5 inches down, loud zinc signal.
Surprised me because I was going after a zincoln...I thought.
I just love surprises!

I air tested it just now and a solid zinc tone, VDI 59-60 up to 10 inches from the standard coil on full sense.

Once again, if you think you are too proud to dig zincolns, you would have passed right by this beauty.

Very nice token, Digger. I started to do some research on that token and it looks like you beat me to it, as all of my Google hits seemed to have your name attached to them (including the old photo of the store)!

Yea, I wish there was more info on these but I have found out as much as I could and then the trail ends.
I will keep trying, though.
