New Farm New Finds

Started detecting another farm I got permission to detect. Built in 1800 with numerous outbuildings and 7 acres of land it should start producing soon. Today I only found a 1953 Rosie, a harmonica, and gobs of clad... I am hoping for more.

Jewelers Estate Part Two

I was able to finish the front of the jewelers estate yesterday and made out pretty well. I recovered a 1943 Half, 1906 British Farthing and a 1906 Indian Head, six wheats, another 1950's British coin and a 1981 Poughkeepsie rabies vaccine dog tag. About the most unexpected find was a three ring bullet! Along with that I found a neat die cast airplane that could be dated anywhere from the forties to early sixties and a little die cast pilgrim or dutch boy. Besides that I found the usual gobs of clad and wrench.
Now I can start concentrating on detecting the other three sides of the mansion.

The Jewelers Estate gives up a key date Indian Head Cent

I have been working another side of the estate near the mansion and unfortunately I have been finding a lot of clad with no deep signals. Today, I decided to widen my grid up and ignore some of the shallow signals since every one had been a post 1960's coin (not even a wheat cent) and lo and behold out popped a cruddy looking Indian Head cent at about seven inches. I put it in my special finds container and then shortly afterward I found another Indian Head. When I got back to work I cleaned up the cruddy Indian Head to find that it was a key date 1871 in at least a fine condition! It should be worth at least a couple of hundred but I don't plan on selling it. The other Indian was an 1890 in a good condition.

Hey guys late into this thread, and new to the forum and hobby but if you ever want an extra pm me I am right in Stormville. Nice find on the estate!

Most of my Dutchess County finds from over the years

I pulled out quite a bit of the treasure I have found over the years and took some pictures of it. It's not all of it but most of the small stuff. Over the years I never kept track of the clad that I found since it was just so.. boring.... So there is only about six or seven modern coins in all of the displays combined and that is just for the landowners benefit when I show them what I found on the land they kindly let me detect.

One interesting find I made in my unsorted finds was another large cent, possibly British (it's very worn) that I found in my backyard finds bag of miscellaneous stuff. This would make the second large cent I found in my backyard.

Hello all, I'm also new to the hobby and this forum. I'm in Wassaic in the Town of Amenia. I would love to get out there with veteran hunters.........if you don't mind dragging a rookie around... Those are some great finds!

Thanks, that would be great, I'm retired so I'm pretty much available all the time. Let me know when and where. Good luck in your future hunts.

Great, La Grange is not far from here. A five year old and a month old, that's great, I have five children....4 are out and on thier own.......sort of, one still home. PM me when you want to go. I have to get out and about around my house, lots of farmland and old buildings around here.

Ah, the bustling metropolis of Amenia. The family roots run deep in that area. My plan is to someday locate all the old family members homesteads using the old maps I have and detect them. It would be pretty cool to dig up my great great great grandfathers coins?

Yea that would be very cool. Preston Mt. is right behind my house, been doing some research on it....very, very old, a ghost town. Would be cool if I could get permission to hunt there. I was looking to get another detector and was looking at the Garrett AT Pro and the Minelab X-Terra 505....any opinions would be helpful.

I have been running a minelab for alot of years and been happy with them.
Minelab just put up a 48 hour countdown on their website for a new product announcement, so we may be in for some exciting times. So i would hold off on a Minelab purchase for now in case there are price changes.
I cant speak for the AT
