Detector resales

I have the equinox 800 and Excalibur ii found more gold with Excalibur on beaches. Equinox is good for bottle caps and good for my land hunting would not sell my Excalibur the best for gold that sweet sound it makes for gold. Well for some guys you wouldn’t know that sound but when hear it you don’t forget it.

I tried to sell my Sovereign elite but no nibbles so I'd much rather keep it for backup than only get like $250. For it.

Yup... I'm in the same boat. Happy to hold on to both Sov's... and their accessories.

When and if you ever have no desire to throw money at the latest and greatest best detector in the world you realize that in spite of yourself you're happy and productive with the perfectly capable detector/detectors you currently own AND use. Reaching this point is where the term "Happy Hunting " came from I think and over 20+ yrs of gathering detectors I'm indeed there.

Yup. Been using BBS detectors for five years and couldn't be happier. Got the CTX, great machine, but hard to put down the SovWOT and Excal Blue.

I sold my Excal to buy my nox 800 and found much more gold with the Excal. The main reason for the switch was the weight of the machines.

Won’t argue as to which is better.....but what do u think either is worth NOW if they didn’t have a warranty? It may not matter how good the machine is if it’s buyers market. When it was introduced most machine buying was put on hold. This machine has had an impact in a lot of ways

Dew,
I think what you are saying may hold true for any new machine that comes out. Technology is constantly getting better. A new machine could give you the edge if it is doing something better than another machine. I think that in the short term it will have an effect on resale as guys are trying to lose that old detector to buy the new hot stuff but in the end it will all equalize untill the new hottness comes out and guys are rushing to sell the nox. Everything depreciates with time and especially technology, in this hobby there are a few facets of growth in the technology, depth, stability, target analyzation, recovery and probably a few I'm unaware of, ergonomics does not change much unfortunately but the nox and the deus have my vote for the seemingly best in that department. So expect some deprecation on any used machine. Unless your scalping an excal:laughing:

Been doing this 25 years.... I’ve yet to see this kind of dramatic change. They did it with the CTX....where they shocked us with a $2400price tag and a lot of bells never seen. Now kind of shocked...half price water machine with3 times the warranty of an Xcal.... and throw away repairs.

I've used my Excal for about 5 yrs now and I've found some great gold finds. I've customized it every which way possible. PP, straight CF shaft, over under, on the hip, quick fittings for swapping coils,...... Great machine... I also bought a NOX.Out of the box... Gold 2nd time out, two thin bracelets and a gold ring trifecta 3rd time out. VERY LIGHT. VERY VERY SENSITIVE. Annoyingly so with small aluminum. ID's aren't accurate usually. They both serve their purpose. The other night I went on a hunt and I ALWAYS take two machines with me. This night I took the Excal and the NOX. Excal has a 15" coil.. Falsing like CRAZY. Uncontrollable. Swapped over to the NOX and it was smooth as silk. I've found certain conditions shine for ea detector. When I'm in the deep water I like the Excal. Wet sand I like the Excal due to its wonderful balance. I also love the NOX. Any erosion I like the NOX or the CTX with a small 6" coil for getting in the crannies.

But..... a good many with say just a Nox 800 who needs a back up machine is most likely to buy what?...... a 600 or a used Xcal... OR CTX? I hear you on the upgrades..... you didnt even mention, knobs, end caps with cTX connectors, batteries, and knob guard. Then ..... what do you think you would spend on repairs in 3 years? So buying or trying to see one for $900 isnt going to be easy i dont think.

Warranty is irrelevant its about production... I could care less about a warranty on a product... I have the stealth scoop warranty but I didn't buy the scoop for its warranty... when I had an issue with my Stealth I took it to my local guy...I was out hunting in a couple of hours for $25 with no need to send it in for repair or pay shipping...

I'm glad you are happy with your new toy.. I'm happy with my old toy.

One further observation of mine.. I see you and many others having the want or need to go purchase the latest and allegedly greatest...I can afford anything out there.. but I use what works for me. :D

I'm waiting with bated breath for the next one for all of you to buy.. another latest and greatest... Holidays are coming save up your clad...

I don't think it will affect the resale value of pure water/diving machines. I do believe it has impacted the resale value of used Sovereigns and anything else that competes in that category. I had considered getting a Sovereign but no longer after getting a 'Nox. I have noticed used Sovereign prices take a dip in the last year.

I was the same, wanted to get a Sov for wet sand hunting, heard all the great reports and it seemed like a tank, but I never liked the price on them used, ended up getting a new CZ-21 this January because I don't typically trust new releases.

By May I drank the koolaid :p and bought a used EQ600 for a good price (the seller had bought the 600 to hold him over until the 800 was shipped). CZ-21 had manufacturing errors on the case right out of the box, delayed me for a month.

I need something that will have the least chance of needing repairs, warranties are good peace of mind but if you live outside of the CONUS its a pain to get these things back and forth for repairs, part of the reason why I never tried it with an Excal. The Nox600 is such a good price that I probably wouldn't bother repairing it if something went bad after the warranty dried up, by then there would probably be something new and attractive anyway.

I think the NOX has some issues with hardware design. It has needed firmware resets to return to normalsy. The new firmware load has not resulted in constent performance behavior across the user base. I’d like to swap detectors with someone on a hunt that thinks theirs is great. I want to like mine but haven’t so far. Maybe I’ll hold out for the 3rd upgrade if it ever comes, maybe not. Just wish the CTX had a fine gold option to find chains once in awhile. In the meantime Im building 2 excals with all the mods and interchangeable coils...a bit late, now I have more into them than I can sell them for. And I have yet to try my gp extreme at the beach.

Not the smartest thing to do.. When you have an epic failure with it you'll of wished you sent it in because now your warranty is null.

Warranty goes hand in hand with an excellent product. The products that are the best tend to have the best warranties because, well frankly, they don't really even NEED to validate that warranty. However when they do, it's icing on an already wonderful cake.

Take TRex scoops for example.. They were supposed... SUPPOSED to of been one of the best scoops around. With that hype I bought one. The welds sheared.. They didn't snap. They simply sheared.. Total garbage. I called them and they basically told me to screw off.. REALLY? Send it back on your dime.. We MIGHT fix it. If we do you'll get shipping fees on the repaired/replaced... SCREW OFF. I did the 25 $ local tig weld repair and threw it in the corner as a last resort back up and ran to buy a Stealth. 3.5 yrs of abuse and it's dented up but rock solid. I called the owner about the dents, he said sure send it back I'll replace it no problem... Example of an excellent product with an excellent warranty. Don't knock warranty.

I still have yet to call gold. Maybe it my old age, or I just get digging away and not focused on what the tones are?...I can call a nickle and most bottle caps but not gold. But for sure the Excalibur rules the water.

Buy those Nox's and sell those Excalibur and CZ's...I've only seen a few Nox's this year but for sure they have started a new revolution on the beach front. Going to be interesting to see the "for sale section" in 3 years.

Dew... I would not sell my Excal no matter what... I thought about a Nox... but honestly I don't think I will be purchasing one anytime soon.. I'm very happy with my dirt and beach machines I own now... I think I would purchase a PI before another multi-frequency to get the depth...

That’s exactly what I said until I bought one. As more people see how good it is, the Excal resale will fall.

I know you don’t want one before you even go there.

I would go depth per depth against a 800 any time......No way a 800 can beat a E-trac for depth!!!.....If you know your E-trac!!!

And then it would probably sit in your closet because your new Equinox can just beat the heck out of it in every detecting scenario. All for 200 dollars more.

Besides the NOX putting the hurt on the SOV Minelab themselves finished it off when they said they will not sell/work on them anymore.
My nox kills the SOV I wouldn't even consider a SOV now.
