Thanks. I was not aware of that. I'll post CRH finds there from now on.

Congrats gameoftag, i was just telling my wife we should try doing that the other day, checking half dollar rolls... i think she's sold now. But i think she'll be disappointed, ya might have spoiled it for her :-)

Went through the clad before I take to the bank. 5 more

My kids helped me sort the coins yesterday and in all the excitment, I knew there was a possibility some silver was missed. I went through all the clad tonight on my own looking for key dates, NIFC (not intended for circulation), no FG (no initials of the designer Frank Gasparro on the reverse), and ,of course, more silver.

Pulled one more 64 Kennedy and 4 more 40% Halves.

Total is now at 190 silver coins out of one bag of $1,000.

Also found a 2004 NIFC and what I thought was a 1982-d, but upon a closer look, it's actually a 1982-P no "FG"(there are no known 1982-D without the FG)

Thanks for all the comments, I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Even finding one makes it worth it. I say go for it, but don't be discouraged if you get nothing. I have been skunked on the last 3 boxes I have searched, and up until now, I only had a handful of silver halves to show in the many thousand coins I have looked through. Now is the time to search though as people are dumping collections to buy Christmas gifts. You might want to try nickels too. I usually get at least 1 war nickel out of a box, but even if you don't, you will find a fair amount of nickels from the 30's through the early 60's. Just a thought. Good luck. I find it fun even if I get nothing.

Nice man. ou are seeing a little slice of another world in coin collecting.

I used to be a 2nd Line for ATM machines so I knew a lot of security guards. By law armored companies have to treat all legal tender at face value, but they are allowed to sell the money to anyone they want for face value so some of them let employees buy old currency for face.

These guys are getting massive amounts of antique coin and bills. In the eyes of a law a $800 collectible is still only worth $.50

Thanks for this post gameoftag! I am learning so much about halves I never knew!??! Hope you can keep going to that bank and ask to buy those bags as they get full!!:D

Just curious if others have had the same problem as me with crh. Seems everytime I take the loose coins back to the bank I am shorted everytime...... It is usually off by a couple dollars but sometimes even more than that. I love going thru the coins but problem is if a guy gets shorted everytime it just doesn't pay for the little you usually find. I haven't tried halves or dollars only pennies and dimes if that should make a difference. Anybody else experience this??

I have always kept a general idea what I have when I cash in, but your post inspired me to check exactly. out of $1,000, I cashed in all the clad and I was only shorted 4 half dollars ($2). This is well within a margin of error that it wouldn't bother me even if I had found no silver. This could have been short in the bag to begin with or it could have been a coin counter at one of the 2 banks I took it to. I know I have seen rolls with an extra and a roll with less here and there, so I imagine it all evens out in the end. I'm certainly not complaining.
This hobby may cost you a couple bucks here and there, but certainly not much. Thanks for inspiring me to check exactly. Now I know.

I have dumped 1K 3 times and have been shorted everytime.... Would be nice to be long once.... You have done so well that if they short you the next 100 times or so you will still get the last laugh.... Good luck and nice find!

I'ma wondering if you should go back to that there bank and offer to buy the quarter, dime and nickel bags as well.
I'da take a chance and your still ahead of the game.

Already on it. :) I have the bag of quarters sitting in my kitchen.... They either cherry picked out the silver or there are not very many. I can't see a single one in the bag. I haven't opened it yet, but I will this weekend. Nickel bag and bag of dimes isn't full yet at the bank, and depending on what I get, I will be getting those as well. I'll keep everyone posted. I'm planning to get the pennies on Wednesday.

Good for you!!!!! What a score. Never seen or heard of anything like that before. What a great Christmas. Big congrats.

Let's just say he about doubled what he spent on the bag in silver alone... not to mention the clad value when he turns it back in... You could just about buy a new Etrac and a new Excal!!!

PS... my CRH trip after I read this, I found 3 silver dimes out of my $250 worth... what now!!! haha!! :p
