From a money making standpoint I can see how this would phase out. The same sponsors will pay twice instead of once depending on how their enrollment is. It's a money making machine and unfortunately, common practice online. This is nothing new, but it's going to be interesting to see who goes/stays.
It's going to be a situation where it's going to end up an identical copy of this forum. I've seen/done it before. The rules will end up being very similar, the people the same, the threads will be the same. You'll see

It has totally different set of rules, it has totally different forum software, I think given enough time it will have totally different crowd.
I think both forums will benefit in the long run. Money has never been the main goal for building this site, it would be a totally different place if that was the case, the other forum is not an exception.

Here is my 2 zincolns. FMDR has been such a joy for me over the last couple years. I am way out here in West Texas hunting alone for the most part most of the time. To be able to share my experiences and read and see the experiences of other like minded people from all walks of life from all over the world is a Godsend. In my very humble opinion I am just glad the internet exists and that I have a place (or places) to go and be a part of metal detecting. Let's take a deep breath and appreciate what Vlad and Carol mods and admins have created. We can hammer on about if there should be classifieds, EE, or any of a hundred more details until hell wouldn't have it. But let's be honest. Vlad and Carol are being very forthcoming in their intentions about the new site and the established one. In the long run, those mice in your individuals hands will say more than anything else when you click a selection. I must admit though, when I was a total newb I thought I knew more than I did and spewed some dumb opinion stuff on Friendly, and got my feelings hurt a few times over even dumber stuff only to realize later that I just needed to re focus on METAL DETECTING and don't engage in petty !!!!. Again I did that with my mouse not my mouth. I'll shut up now. HH Sonny b from Texas.

Its probably a huge task and not possible but it would be great to merge the FMDF data to the new software to get the best of both worlds. http://www.mybb.com/downloads/merge-system
It appears the new software offers more possibilities that the old one does not which includes better administration tools, better control of users and posts, ease of use for users, quicker response, and less headaches. Just my opinion!!! ..

Lots of the same folks over there anyway, and more continuing to show up daily.
Over 200 members so far, and growing.
Sure it has some growing pains, already one idiot has shown his face, but that can happen here too, and we all know it has.
The self governing thing I am pretty sure will eventually go away, there has already been abuses, and knowing people the way I do I really don't hold out much hope for that, but we will see.
Me, I will look in on that one daily and post if I have something that I think will help or amuse, but I do that on several forums even though this one I consider my home base.
I will try to help that place get going in my own little way if I can...like it is so hard to throw out some good advice from time to time.
It's new over there, with a few things I don't like and a few features I do, and I am willing to have patience and see how things shake out over time.
Just one more place to learn from and brag on if I find something cool, as far as I am concerned.
The biggest thing is that neither site is owned by the same type of idiot that the Findmall membership has to put up with.

Ahem, if we brought in more staff to FMDF, it would be to get rid of the problems, not to maintain them.

And what of the years of helpful posts here? Will FMDF become like an archive that we have to come back to to see older stuff while all the current discussion is on Liberty? I honestly don't get it. It's like if you own a restaurant and feel it needs some changes so you open another one with a new menu BUT suggest that people keep coming to the old one too...don't get it. Why not either fix up the original one OR have everybody move to the new one and then close the old one? Otherwise you've got half your customers in each one, wistfully looking at their friends in the other one down the street and everybody wondering what they're missing. Or the few who are wearing themselves running up and down the street between them...lunch at one, dinner at the other...

FMDF is remaining the same (compact) those who wanted added subforums are getting them at Liberty...
There is plenty of room for two forums... I'm a member at several, one more stop is no big deal

I wish they would put peoples home location, as in JoeBlow from Idaho, like they do here in the other site, it helps to know sometimes.
I think it is absolutely incredible that some of you are actually angry - and or confused, over a new forum with different features.
Let’s say you go into the restaurant and order your meal. It is very good and you come back over and over again. Then one day the owner says, “I just opened a new restaurant with a completely different menu, and since you are my good customer here is an invitation to go there free!”
What is your first reaction?
“I’m confused?”
“I don’t know what to do.”

Hello? You confused, annoyed and angry folks need to go live with my fourth wife for a week.Seriously people..
Now why would I want to go to a new resturant with a new menu not knowing what the food tastes like when I am already satisfied with the food and familiarity at my current resturant?? I find the people's reaction to all of this as normal and justified. Familiarity has a value all its own. So don't get upset because you see people getting angry or upset over all this.
