I don't care about finding new nickels but I'll still dig all nickel signals including the shallow ones. Reason is I don't want to miss a nice gold ring or other low conductor which will read in that same range. Plus, I like finding old nickels even though they have no real value after being in the ground. I've found V & Shield nickels at less than 3" deep in this hard GA clay. The older nickels and some gold jewelry can still be found in common hard hit places like parks due to the fact that a lot of detectorists have skipped over them in the past, discriminating them out to avoid pull tabs and other junk.
