Today I met up with Air Force Mike and Jack & Jill at an old "pounded to death" park. Always fun to catch up on things with forum members.

Luckily, we were swinging the 17 inch coils on our 3030's.
I was thrilled to pull a Merc, Rosie and 3 wheaties.
Merc is a 1918:yes:

Hopefully the guys will add their photos and stories.

Happy Hunting Everybody:D

Nice hunt. Those 3030s sure can get the deep silver.

Sounds like you all had a great time, congrats on some silvers and other goodies! So do you think that you were hitting targets that were just out of other machines' reach, or was it just a matter of getting into the right area?

I am telling ya, this park is an old park in the heart of the city. Been getting hunted for a LOOONNG time and it was just amazing how we were just popin silver all morning long and only really hunted a few hours. I always say that the 17 is the most underrated coil around, today is proof folks. Takes a tad getting used to and a gym membership but worth it. Just a real pleasure hunting with some of the best around...thanks Trapper and Matt!!

HH,
AFM

Its always a combination of both. We have hit this park before with great success. I think the key today was getting into a spot that held some deep silver and only difference was that 17 purely just amplifies that deep tone, not saying it gets you more depth it just lets ya know that there is a target under you coil without any hesitation. I think thats why Matts depth analysis is not what most would say impressive, its just that them targets were masked before and that 17 just gave us a good indicator their was a legit target. I know myself I pulled 2 targets next to iron and I think Matt did as well.

Looks like you guys had a great time and some awesome finds. Congrats!!

Geez I wish I had some buddies to go detecting with ...oh wait I do have a md'ing buddy, it's Loki (my avatar) the three legged dog. He is great company, never complains, and sure beats the he.. heck out of dragging the wife along!!

Looking good guys! Just goes to show...it's out there, most everywhere. I love the 17" coil like a brother,it's just not a coil for ALL places. A nice flat open park? Hell yeah! I'm going out this evening for a bit, good golly is it HOT out or what??
Well done and good to see more good finds from within the land of cheese and plump women!

Nice hunt guys. 9 silvers and 17 wheats is really impressive especially as dry as our ground is. I agree with you on how well the 17 inch coil works. Would love to do another group hunt when we get some moisture in our ground. PJ

The 17" coil is all I hunted with when I had the CTX.
People just dont realize just how good it is and how
good the separation is for such a big coil.

I wore a home made swingy thingy type harness so
it was light as a feather.

Awesome hunt guys!!!

Oh, and I forgive you Mat for not inviting me....although I dont
blame you as I may very well have my 50 silvers and win our
"first to 5o competition.
1920's lake house tomorrow...you better get out there.. LOL

I will, I will be following you to that house and swinging in the back yard while you are working...:laughing::lol::laughing:

There may be something to the big coil... I have had 3 ctx's and 2 etrac's. I have a tough separation test bed. A dime at 7 inches at the base with a big crusty nail 1.5 inches off center 2 inches above and then a pull tab at the edge of the plug at 2 inches from surface. All this in a 6 inch round plug. I did not have a large 17 coil for my ctx's all i had was stock and the 6 inch coil. I could not get my ctx to sound off on the dime with either coil, but i did get a solid ID number with the stock coil but no sound. With the etrac i could not get a solid ID number or sound with a sunray 5.5 coil, 8x6 sef, or the nel sharpshooter, but with the stock coil i could get a solid enough ID and tone that i would have dug the target. I wish i would of had a large coil to test on it to see if it was even better. I was always under the impression that the smaller coils separated better , but with FBS i think the larger DD coils may be actually better. At least with my Etrac it was. I know someone will say well the dime was too deep to begin with for the small coils,,,, but i also have a dime at 7 inches with no trash and i could get it easily with ctx or etrac and small coils in my soil. I would like to know what you guys settings were if you don't mind posting them? I have located a used ctx that is being fire sold and i may pick it up.
