I think the one item is a heel plate with the star but I am not sure of the origin or the time era. The second item is a brass doodad for lack of better words. There is a small hole that look like it would be for a set screw. Any assistance on either one would be appreciated.

Looks like it would go on the top of a flagpole (flagstaff)...

Yup, I think it might be the end of a curtain rod, or as my wife calls em, a "finial"
