I found this today at a known civil war battle site and someone told my it was a buck ball? But seem to big and heavy for that. so I was thinking it may be a Canister or Grape cannon ball? 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 7.78 oz. I know you cant tell from the picture but it seems i was cut in half and put back together only shifted it also has area on both side that looked like something may have extended out from it.

Does a magnet sticks to it? It appears to be rusty iron, cast in a 2 piece mold, similar in design to this, probably on a larger scale>>> Knowledgeable folks here can fill you in on the usage of the ball.
