Newbie here - history buff but relatively new to metal detecting and struggling to ID a recent find that I’m hoping is obvious to someone
The object is 7” tall and is solid/heavy. It was 4-5” deep about 6 feet from the waterline of a small lake in the Chicago suburbs. I know the lake was used as a getaway from Chicago since late 1800s. At the specific location where this item was found it was part of a farmers property between ~1930-1980 before becoming the backyard in a residential neighborhood. FWIW, I’ve also found a few horseshoes in this same general vicinity
My initial thought was some sort of stake to tie up boat. Not sure the hole is large enough to thread rope of meaningful size though, but some of the notches and arms I could only envision to lash/tie rope. I’m struggling with this one even trying to pin down how old or new this object could be.
Appreciate any thoughts!
