Found this button in the sand.

Can anybody tell me about this button I found on my local beach. It has "best plated" and "wrs" on it. Is it old?? I looked online and could not find an exact copy.. The shank is broken off as you can see. On the back side looks like a little silver colored plating left on the edge.

I can't find that particular backmark, but I would guess your button was made between 1790s to the 1840s. That was pretty much the time frame for flat buttons. After that they fell out of favor.

Thanks! It was almost small enough to fall thru my scoop holes. At first I thought it was just a scrap piece of metal until I saw the writing on it. No matter the age it is cool and my first button.
