You tube rant

This is why I built Goldzilla to show those new groups that it might be pointless to hunt my beaches as I’ve been towing Goldzilla up and down the beach lol . Should keep a lot of local beach hunters on their toes .

I'm guessing you could tilt the coil sideways with that monster and knock out every detector for 100 yards.

So 100% true. Though there is a tuber who predominantly films Redondo/Torrance. Buy I'm sure you've seen the recent videos from this "crew" where they head north and hit 5 beaches in a day. They basically got skunked. You could tell they didn't know the beaches at all because they've never been there before. I get it though , as your own spots dry up you have to branch out and travel......

Yes, JJJ shoots mostly in Redondo/Torrance. With tongue in cheek he has stated he is hunting a "secret beach"......and he was- MY Secret Beach...

My guess is you hit the BC area. I used to live 1 mile from there , met my x-wife and considered that my "home" beach........

You are correct about the BC area. I have also been down Newport way with Compass a few times.....

I bought Don's book sometime in the 90s. It was more of a binder/pamphlet and had great info. I wish I still had it. I met Don a couple of times while out hunting and he had a few years on me. No idea if he is around anymore. It was really because of him and that book that I took a more serious approach to branching out and learning other beaches farther away from where I lived.

The late, great Jim Straight turned me on to Don's books. I never met Don, but I am sure he is gone now. Thankfully, I still have his books…..

Reactions: KOB
You're looking at this all wrong. It's a self correcting issue. These bozo's planting finds convince people to buy a manitcore. Said newbie heads to the local beach and gets heart broken when all they find is pulltabs, and 6 months later that manitcore is on marketplace at 50% off having been lightly used and found zero gold.
That's how the vast majority of these go, sure there's a few that stick around and get serious but they will be the types that would do it anyway.
The power of positive thinking!

I think just getting out, moving around, bending down and digging a little, standing back up is a win... It's more exercise
than a lot of modern people see in a month. I'm kind of in the same boat. Finding "treasure" is nice, but for me it's the
same as when I go fishing. Spending the day at the beach sifting sand... it's so much better than every other day of the
week that it's like living a different life. It's so amazing to have a day where you can just enjoy it and it's not a challenge
to find a reason not to use drain cleaner as your coffee creamer.

My sentiments exactly! I only really have one day a week I can get out. Other than a couple weeks this winter after some beach erosion the OC beaches have mostly sucked for months now... and I know that... but for me I would still rather be wandering around a beach swinging my Manticore than doing about anything else. Fresh air, sunshine, nice scenery ;-), a little exercise, and some relaxing digging therapy to decompress for the next week before dragging my ass back to the windowless cubicle to do what I HAVE to do for another week. I do okay on finds... I do a bit of research, keep an eye on cams, winds, tides and swells and have a few beaches I know well but ultimately, for me, the hobby is not exclusively about gold counts and finds totals... it's equally about the experience and simply enjoying a day of doing what I want, and like, to do!
