I'm looking for an inexpensive machine for freshwater use. I have watched a lot of YouTube videos of the X-Terra and the vdi numbers seem to really jump around.

Items seem to often jump from the 30s to the 80s, never really settling on a number.

Is this normal? Is it generally jumpy like that?

I really want to like it. The price is nice and it feels very well balanced and light.

Thanks for your input.

Yes. I had the X-Terra Pro for a while and it is one heck of a detector for the price. My only issue was I needed something with a good solid VDI to cherry-pick.

They have the sensitivity set to high ... XTP runs smooth at 12 -15

You are wanting seperation mot depth
Thanks. I was looking at them at the shop and mentioned what I had seen on you tube and the store owner said the same thing, sensitivity set too high.

It seemed so well balanced. Looks like the shaft meets at the center of the coil and a lot of other machines have the shaft behind the center point

In my opinion yes. Great detector aside from the jumpy VDI which I believe is from being set factory so hot. You can stabilize it by tuning things down a tad. Other than that, I felt it was very close to my Equinox 800 with less options.

Thank you for the replies. Just finished assembling my X Terra I brought home today.
Spent no money, swapped some gear for it.
Mostly want it for water but the water is too cold for at least a month so I will swing it a bit in the parks and woods.
