Who dares to detect woods at nighttime

The Woods would be a nice place to hunt, if it wasn't full of all those Trees! Trees are extremely dangerous, day or night! Especially the wild ones. They do not like humans and look for any opportunity to trip, crush, poke your eye out, etc...some less evil ones merely slap the hat off your head for giggles....

They stand there for years looking for a murderous opportunity to come along. Some hold a big Man killing dead branch just for this once in a Lifetime purpose. Its like some sort of badge of honor for a tree to kill a Human...Its the only thing they got to look forward to. Standing around for hundreds of years with nothing to do. They get bored, and that makes them mean! Some trees go so far as to jump out in front of your car even. I've had that happen! Sometimes for exercise, they all start moving in unison waving too and fro and like gigantic 'Air Oars'...If this group dynamic gets violent, as all Humans have observed, destructive wind is the result!

Trees will also stalk you. I had a big old evil 200year old piss Elm follow me around for the better part of a Northern Minnesota day once. I was out were I shouldnt a been, in the woods. It was an overcast day, one of those days where the navigational bearing or timing of the Sun is not helpful, I couldnt tell N from S or if its 8am or 8pm...In retrospect, This is a common Life occurrence of mine, losing track of Time and Direction. 'Aimlessly Wandering Syndrome'...

Anyway, as I tried to get out of that woods, I kept coming across the SAME tree over and over again! He would wait until I passed by, then he would run around a shortcut or something and get out in front of me again!

After a few meetings, I did what Men in this dangerous situation normally do! I took off in a straight line as fast as I could go! This aggressive tree, seeing I may indeed escape, called in all the underbrush to act like a pack of beagles! Nipping and tripping and blocking and scratching at me to drive me in a circle right back into his field of fire! He was going to club me with a big dead branch!

The whole woods came alive in the excitement of the hunt!! All the other trees woke up and started hollering, "Get Him Elmo!" "Kill that SOB!" I woulda made for a great arboreal trophy! I've killed a lot of trees and peed on quite a few others, so I sort of had it coming..... Well sir, it was only by the Grace of God I made it out of there alive, all torn up, without my hat...and missing one shoe some vine probably has as a momento of this event.....

The only thing that scares trees is a Man with a chainsaw, even then, they try to take you with them...The "Widow Maker" title earned by a tree in the process of being cut down is the woodland equivalent of a posthumous Medal of Honor recipient...

So to answer your question: Would I dare go out and hunt in the woods at nighttime? ...Yeah, probably....if there wernt no @#$% trees around!!

Mud-puppy,
according to your story this could be a title for a film;
Instead of "He who Dances with Wolves" it could well be "He who Dances with Trees"

I don't detect at night, but on a turkey hunt one morning, I was walking to my spot in the very dark woods. I have never been nervous about being in the woods, so I was casually walking along. I stopped by a tree to get my bearings, and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Until a bard owl about 20' up in the tree decided to say "hi" - by screaming at me at the top of his lungs. I know I looked like a cartoon character scrambling away from that tree. And I have no doubt I would have beaten Usain Bolt for the first 20 yards!

Here in Germany they talk about the "Lady in White" wandering
around in the woods.
I cannot confirm it, because as I already said,I don't go into the
woods at night .

LMAO!!!!:laughing::laughing: I read down wondering when I would run into Mud's response!!!! As always A CLASSIC response mud!!!

Your story is full of nothing but the truth!!! Where I live in Western North Carolina I just had a dancing sweet gum tree jump out in front of my truck backing down my drive on my way to work one morning. I managed to get away with only a dent in the rear bumper. Could have been much worse if it had been successful in its attempt to Wormnap me!!!

As long as there is a decent moon and I can see enough from keep from getting a branch removing an eyeball I have no issues with it. I was born and raise basically surrounded by woods and feel more at ease out there than I do in town parks or most cities after the sun sets. I have way more fear of people at night than I do of anything out there.

I don't detect at night, too easy to trip and fall or step off into a hole, ravine or just uneven ground.

I have always felt safe in the woods at night. Animals don't bother you and bad humans are rarely in the woods at night.

I told all my son's female friends if they ever break down on a highway in Atlanta at night just grab their cell phone and walk 100 yards into the woods and be quiet. There are very bad people who in Atlanta seeing a girl in a disabled car can mean trouble for the girl. Get in the woods and call for help for friends or family. But get away from the car which makes you a target. There is nothing in the woods at night that will hurt you.

I am training for a 100 mile Ultra marathon that is in a couple weeks and part of my training is running trails at night for 20 - 30 miles, let me tell you it is a whole different ball game. It really slows the pace as you cannot see your footing not to mention many nocturnal animals about this time of night.
Not sure I would opt for any night detecting.

Last time I went pre-dawn hunting I found this while digging a hole. I was observed by a mountain lion. A bit unnerving. But then I found 2 nuggets. Was trying to beat the early rain.

Deus Rules!!
