So seeing ive been out of the hobby for 5 years now, I have been trying to watch some videos to catch myself back up, try to find new stuffs, new machines, new equipment, etc. etc. I found a couple things that are totally 100% completely unnecessary lol but I think I'm still going to grab them for my Dad and I to play around with, my Dad is getting close to 70 now and want to get as much quality time in with him doing what we love. S i decided to turn my old shop into a little "Hobby Hut", it's actually quite large tho lol it's like 38ft by 16ft, so im just trying to find some cool stuff to bring into the place. First though let me show you guys the main reason I am even making this post, I was scrolling through Amazon and came across THIS Monstrosity and I was wondering if anyone knows wtf this thing is! Or is it just one of those "things" people hobble together to try and swindle people out of money. Genuinely curious about this one because if it has a actual purpose I'd love to know it lol.

Now that thing is out of the way, let me show you a couple things that I am picking up that actually might be cool to have in the "Hobby Hut"
Firstly, I have wanted one of these for awhile and I'm sure quite a few of you guys probably already have one, but do you guys think THIS particular unit will be good? Also do you use any particular solutions in yours for coins, etc.?

The second item is THIS bad boy, this one I know is complete overkill, but my Dad has worse and worse eyes, and being able to look at things up close is something he really enjoys. He has been having a hard time the last few years using his pocket/jewel Loupe, so figured I would put this in there for him to tinker around with on our finds, and other things he wants to gander at.

Is there anything you guys have that is completely unnecessary, yet you're glad you have?

Thanks,

Yea I wasn't about to buy it, I was just wondering if it some kind of actual thing or if its just buttons and switches with antennas some dude in a garage put together lol. I guess I got my answer though hehe. I'm guessing you've seen stuff like that before?

Funny you should have this item. I just got something similar and it's awesome. It's a portable digital microscope with rechargeable batteries, has Wifi capability, can take photos and videos of objects, and is under $100 on Amazon. I just got it a couple of days ago and intend on taking it out with me on hunts far from home. For now though, since I seem stuck on hunting nearby parks, I'll leave it at home and use it there. I'm only using it as standalone at this time (but there is a downloadable app, that's not rated very good, or you can download a program for your desktop and use a USB connection).

First item you need to run away from. Second one (microscope) you should run to. Very handy for identifying hard to read crusted up old coins.

I actually have one of the Tomlov microscopes (cheaper one with no remote). I got it a while back for learning watch repair and it really does work well. I was quite surprised at how well it works.

The screens end up being the weak point of the inexpensive digital microscopes, because of the screen size(even the 7” screens are far too small) and the failure rate.

Also, you need a larger screen and a hands free microscope to enjoy as a fun toy, so don’t listen to the “muh cell phone magnifier is free.” crowd.

This microscope is only $36 and plugs into your laptop or desktop, which allows you to view on a big screen.

I've also had a Tomlov microscope unit for a while and love it. Great for cleaning and identifying finds!
It's so easy to use. Turn it on and go.
It's the right tool for the job.

CW, you just gave me an idea. I have several USB cameras. I could build a mount to hold a magnifying lens, which I have several, and the camera and take some close-ups.
