Just thought I would let everyone know that I was in contact with Doug 'Turtlefoot' at the start of the year. I contacted him in relation to shotshell headstamps and he surprised me by giving me his headstamp website, photos and all.

I have since got most of his headstamps up in an online database but he had lost some photos over the years so it is not complete. Luckily I have had other people send in photos so the database is now larger and covers UK as well as US manufacturers.

The website is here https://aussiemetaldetecting.com/shotshell-resources/shotshell-headstamp-database/

As for Doug, he told me had had serious health issues and I'm assuming that is why he stopped spending his time on his website. I believe he spends his time on other interests now. I don't know why he doesn't post on forums anymore as he didn't mention it and I didn't want to ask.

Funny you should say that. I was on your website the other day.I was looking up a headstamp that had the word tiger on it. I was happy to see that it was actually there. Thanks for the help. Coins are very rare where I detect so head stamps take their place. I think they provide good information as to the age of a property. thanks again

I originally got into the headstamps for the same reason, to try to date the areas where I was detecting. It's funny where that ended up.

Well that's cool that you have rescued what most likely would have disappeared forever!

Thanks for putting Doug 'Turtlefoot's Shotgun head stamp info up.

I also find many older ones which I save (I throw away the plastic cases).

Have lots of UMC NITRO and now can see these are pre-1900. Wow.

Need to clean all I have and go through them.

Glad to hear he's ok. I was concerned because he had not been on in a while, and I knew he had health issues.....

I've added mobile accessibility to the headstamp database. If you're on a mobile you should be able to scroll across now to see dates and comments. I've also added a lot of new types of shotshells.

A few days ago I found a Winchester Blue Rival No 12 headstamp. I had a look at your database and you only had Winchester Blue Rival No 10's listed. I'll reply with an image of mine on this thread tomorrow.

If you'd like me to add the headstamp to the database you can always email me a close up of it and I'll attribute it to you. [email protected]

If anyone else happens to have one I'm missing or even a brand I don't have up yet, feel free to email me a photo with whatever name you'd like me to attribute it to.
Cheers, Mike.

I'll be cleaning a bunch of mine up over the next couple of weeks, and crosschecking some of the more unique ones with your database - if I find anything you don't have yet, I'll happily send the pics along.

Thanks again for the effort, Mike!

Mike I just went to your site and wanted to thank you for getting Turtle foots database back out there for the folks around the world to have access to. I don't think any of us can thank you enough for your efforts.

Fantastic functionality. Site looks great.

Thank you so much.

Thanks, Mate. Been a bit busy on other things atm but I have a few more shotshell types to get up sooner or later.

No sorry, I haven't heard from Doug for a long time now. I'm not sure what he's up to these days.
