i usually don’t keep these conglomerates ,unless I’m on the truesure coast or area of possible ship wrecks. These been soaking in oil for some time now. Ran them in ultrasonic cleaner and this is what i have so far. What y’all think. Trash or treasures , some I didn’t post close up pics as i feel they need more time to reveal themselfs

Don't rely on people's opinions from this forum. They are not experts. Some of those items look like they could possibly be shipwreck artifacts. Take them to the MacLarty's Museum on A1A near Wabasso or Mel Fisher's Museum on US1 in Sebastian and get a professional opinion.

Scoundrel is a treasure hunter Joe.. he could be considered a expert as he hunts shipwrecks on the FL treasure coast.

The only iron artifacts that I ever saw worth keeping were big pieces like deadeyes, cargo hooks and other rigging, cannon balls, anchors and chain.
We did find quite a few encrusted iron sword handles. We found hundreds and hundreds of pieces like yours that were nothing. I’m not saying you don’t have anything, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

I love a good treasure hunt and excitement along with it,but I’m a realist i know the odds are high, but I also put in more time than the average MDer.. i do see a possibility of a spike on that flatted out looking one. And a hand hammed rivet ,,, I’ll let em soak. Run in ultrasonic cleaner a bit.
Ty tho. I just wanted to if anyone with more experience than me would recognize/positive id anything. Can’t beat a trained eye and experience

Is that a coin stuck in those barnacles? Or a shell? Look up Scoundrels resume, that man has found sunken treasure ships, literally. I would like to have a beverage or 2 with him someday.

Mark in Michigan
Think its a print of shell that was there

Dam no one can tell me i Fd up the tittle “cost” y’all just gonna let me walk around with a bugger hanging out my nose.

Interesting. Now you've piqued my interest. I occasionally find those globs in the Myrtle Beach area. I never gave them much thought, as most of the shipwrecks that I'm aware of are further south of here. One I found was in an area where a hotel once stood, and I believed it was part of the parking lot. I think I need to pay more attention. I also did a quick search on an oil soak cleaning method. It revealed little, if anything useful. Can ya tell me more about that?

Any iron that has been in the ocean for a very long time will start to disintegrate when it’s removed from the salt water. When we found items that were going to be preserved, they were kept in a vat of fresh water for 24 months, to stabilize.

Agreed. Iron doohickeys like these are a dime a dozen after storm erosion ON ANY BEACH in the USA. They just go in the nearest trash can.

Make an electrolysis machine out of an old transformer and have fun with the discovery. I'm in the T-coast and find a ton of similar shaped objects. My guesses are as follows:

1.) If hollow, it could be a lipstick or cigar tube. If solid, its a piece of railing.
2.) fishing tackle / lure
3.) bent nail
4.) costume earing or a the eyelet from a fishing pole.
5.) lead anchor / fishing weight

Between St. Augustine and the Treasure coast, I saved a 30-gallon tote worth of weird objects. I went through 4 hand-made electrolysis machines in my attempt to uncover the object hidden inside. Honestly, it was fun!!! Almost like a scratch-off lotto ticket, wondering if I’d score some secret relic.

My heart would race when the mass would disintegrate and reveal a gemstone or too. For a moment, I’d think, IM RICH! I FOUND TREASURE!!! But as these masses eroded, all the shiny stuff was costume jewelry with glass. Bwhahaha.

Work on a few dozen with similar shapes and you’ll start to see commonalities in the hidden masses. As Scoundrel already mentioned, he’s done this for decades and has an intuition based on thousands of finds like these. But maybe that is the exact reason you should try to uncover them…. They probably aren’t anything of value and it will be a fun learning experience.

Cheer and let us know what you uncover!

I can not upload all the pics at one time so here is the more obvious. #1 and #3 solid copper and a nail
