Very impressive D4C. I can only imagine what the totals would be if you had kept a log since starting. I started in 2015 but didn't keep a log till 17. Hope you are far from finished, now get back out there  Good luck. Mark

I gotta give you a ton of credit for even keeping records. But how meticulous and accurate are you ? Ever miss some ? For the last 4 years or so , I've tried. Make a journal and it only lasts about 2 weeks. I hunt so much with a lot of different target entries (beach) that it becomes work , is not fun and I give up.

I am a digit head, and like to use spreadsheets, so, like diggin, I keep detailed records for every hunt I go on. I don’t find it difficult and actually like to record the target data I find each time I go out...maybe I will tire of it soMétis e down the road, but for now, I’m keeping good records, and can run graphs or charts from the data as well, which I also like.
Diggin, that’s a lot of goodies, and plenty of earth moving over the years. I hope I can achieve your stats some day!

Thanks Mark.....I'm hoping I can continue digging for a few more years but father time is starting to catch up to me. I'll be 77 one week from today. Sooner or later I'll have to call it quits, just not yet. When I do, it'll be a sad day for sure.

Thanks KOB.....I'm VERY meticulous with my record keeping. I log my finds after every hunt and double check all finds before logging them onto my sheet. I log the date, the site location and the time spent there. I log the number of each denomination I find...pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, halves, and dollar coins. I log silver separately from clad. The day's finds are added to the previous totals so I don't have to add everything up at the season's end. Really easy actually. To me it isn't work at all, just part of the fun.

Thanks FLOOD.....just keep at it, always hunt in a way that's fun, and your totals will add up fast. Good Luck !

Very impressive numbers Ed, I also wish I had kept track of my finds. I guess it's never too late to start but, it's been a decade already  good luck in 2023!

Eastern Ct.? We may be neighbors! Since I started back in the early '80's I have recovered 1 silver dollar and no dollars other than that. What have I been missing? Where should I be looking?
Please help this old hunter before I strain what's left of my mental capability!

Well I see that you dug more quarters than you did pennies. Meaning : You're cherry picking some times. Thus meaning you're leaving the pennies for the other people on this forum. How could you be so cruel ? :?: Seriously now .... was that "being nice" ? Leaving the pennies for everyone else ? Forcing us poor beleaguered md'rs to spend all day digging pennies JUST because you were greedy and took all the quarters first ? :iwish:

Sssheeesskk, and I thought that diggin4clad was a nice guy. NOW I know why our parks and schools are littered with zinc. And none of those highly prized higher denomination quarters. HHhaaarrruuummppphh ! :sissyfight:

Ed I started my log in 2005 and it sounds pretty close to yours Log.jpg.

Thanks Jeff.....I acxtually started keeping track of my finds back in 1985, two years after starting the hobby but somehow all the records from 1985 to 2009 got lost. Good luck to you too Jeff, may 2023 be very productive for you.

We are distant neighbors, I live in Plainfield which is probably a one hour ride to Old Lyme. I've detected some spots in Old Lyme over the years but haven't been there recently. The modern dollars are where you find them, mostly in the usual kind of places......parks, sport fields, schoolyards, and playgrounds.

Tom......I only eliminate zinc pennies. But to say I'm not a nice person because of that just isn't true. I'm so nice I've been nicknamed "Mr. Wonderful". By skipping the zincs I'm probably missing DOZENS of Large Cents and Colonial coppers and saving them for others to find. That way the "others" can find them and taunt you with all of them and save me the trouble of taunting you.
