Would anyone be able to pinpoint the general era in which these were used? I found this near the "cabin wreck" in Florida{ spanish galleon wreck site}. Dug it up on the beach about 6 inches down.

The ship went down in 1715 , along with others but I was trying to figure out if this type of lock hardware could actually have been from the wreck , or just something that washed ashore from another time.

I just had three skeleton keys made for a closet door in a house that was built in the 1930's. To do this I had to remove the hardware and send it to a locksmith. The piece you have looks a lot like the decoretive keyhole piece over the hole in the door . It was attached to the door with two very short wood screws. It could however still be from a shipwreck, I don't think this kind of hardware changed to much over the years. The lock itself could probably tell you more than the keyhole as far as age. Still a very interesting find.
