Have been hitting this far end on this beach for years I thought I had it tapped. This is a crescent shaped beach and a far end has been neglected and ignored for years, there is a sand volleyball court to the right but thats as far as people go, so a good stretch here is being reclaimed by nature. Even right up to the water its getting very mossy with grass and weeds. Thing is, wasn't always that way, this beach has been in active used since the early 1950's and I have seen period pics where it is packed from end to end, including a string of changing booths in this area that are long gone [found the foundations for some of them, pic in the foreground is right about where they were] Love having period pics, there was also a dock of sorts that went out quite a ways, I imagine people tied up little boats and plain went jumping off it in those days, that is long gone too and I'd like to determine its exact location, even approximately.
So I hammered most of this area into oblivion, but further left it gets even more taken over by weeds, goes to a downwards running steam that feeds into the main lake, and it is really overrun there so I have avoided it up until now, and thats where I found these.

They all look like they have undergone a little duress over the years, maybe from chemicals, being close to that little steam and whatever it picks up ?
I have found lots of other silvers in this vicinity and none were tarnished like these. The quarter maybe fired damaged I don't know, it is probably about 20% bigger than a normal quarter, generally kinda squashed and has a readable date of 1950something. To point out the obvious, I think I need to bring my Legend here for a little extra depth over my 400. There is still quite a bit of area around there I have never even explored, including some little hills behind the beach that I predict are loaded, but saturated with decades of picnic trash. On the + side, easy digging but I'll have to wait for Nov for that when most of the employees will be gone, technically metal detecting is not allowed here.

You did good my friend. Silvers in any condition are always great to find. Your description of that place reminds me of a place my wife and I hunted several years ago. You, being from Michigan, do you remember a place up here called "Call of the Wild". It's located in Gaylord now, but at one time it was on old US-27 south of Gaylord and was quite the tourist destination. We hunted where the parking lot was and came away with over 20+ silvers. It might have had another name like The Underground Forest.

Nope doesn't ring a bell.
Spots that produce old coins like this are getting pretty rare, I ignored this area for years because no one used that area, no use = no drops. Then one day I strayed a bit past the volleyball court and found a merc, then another and another and a silver quarter. Was amazed, last thing I expected on a beach was decades old silver coins, but when I thought about it it made perfect sense- May have been unused in my era but that didn't mean it was always like this, and it wasn't.
So there won't be any fresh drops true, but I can truly hammer it to death and recover anything remotely detectable.

Wtg man this is the type of hunting I like to do ;) I like to research an old area that’s not so popular anymore and has been overlooked by others hunters . Keep at it I went to my honey hole the other day and got a few old coins and a silver ring ;)
