I decided with the cooler temps this morning, I'd walk down to the old school and try the old ball diamond (now an alfalfa field). This school has been hunted, see my story and previous finds here:

I started towards the ball field, but wanted to swing by the spot where I dug the half dollar. Not much there but did find a wheat penny, so I decided to follow that line out by the highway down to the field. Here's a pic of how close these finds are to the highway:

At least the breeze off the constant line of gravel trucks feels good!

I made it within five or ten feet of the field and got a scratchy 11-43 signal, I was expecting a copper penny, but about four inches down was a worn and iron stained 1908(D) Barber dime that was with a rusted nail. I spent awhile in this little area creeping at a snails pace and pulled some more interesting finds:

I thought the ring was my first gold, but it was just another plated junker. The next coin was also another Barber! A fine 1901. I also found a pocket watch piece and a 5 mill Missouri tax token, which technically is a half cent! Ha.

Sadly I was rained out after not quite an hour, but I will definitely go back and eventually make it to that ball field.

You're killing it! Congrats on the Barbers!

Nice assortment of finds. Congrats on the barber dimes. Bet that ring was a dandy when it was new.

Congratulations on some great finds! I had hoped to get out this morning, but a fever and chills demanded that I get some rest.

That's some nice coinage right there and a nice job of getting the most out of your research.

Thanks John, I enjoy the researching aspect as much as the detecting. I've learned so much about the area and it's due to this hobby. The other thing I enjoy researching are the finds, what is it, how was it used, etc.

Isn't it a great hobby???!!!

Yes it is, and it's much more fun than what I used to do as a kid...which was sift through rolls of clad dimes hoping to find a merc in there :).
