Does anybody out there apply Ren wax to your old silver coins? So far I’ve only done my coppers and some artifacts because im sketched out about touching my silvers too much. It’s one thing to rub on a silver Washington quarter and another to do it with a 300 year old Spanish silver.

If you do apply it, do you rub it on or apply it a different way to avoid scratches or wiping off details? Thanks!

Unless I buy a pristine coin from someplace like Apmex, I don't do anything to the ones I find other than washing them with soap and water. If I was going to do some type of protectant it would be a spray car detailer.

Some may cringe but I clean mine with baking soda and water then apply ren wax with a q-tip and buff with a soft cloth. The exceptions being a key date or if a silver has a nice tone to it when I dig it. My oldest silver is only a 1886 dime. I might have to rethink it if I dug a capped bust or Spanish silver. Mark

That’s my thought as well. I just dug a 1721 cut 2 real and i think im going to leave it as is. It has a very dark patina but I’d rather that than a bunch of micro scratches that ruin the detail. I slightly messed up my seated Dime running some experiments. But it was crusty and hard to see when it was dry. The pics on my account make it look great but it was wet when I took those.

I don't really do much to my silvers, and I'm of the belief that one can do whatever they want to theirs.
