What would you guys recommend for the best metal detector in the $1000 range?

one question the experts on this board will ask is, what are you using it for? i was told a Garrett 2500 and that's what i have for fields, parks, yards and similar. the package comes with 2 coils. i really like mine but haven't compared with anything else. if you look around, you can find the package for under $900.

The best I've found with my experience is the Whites DFX followed by the Garrett 2500 and Fisher Coinstrike. All of these are excellent coinhunting detectors . I agree that you need to pin down what type of hunting you'll mostly be doing. Coin hunting , relic hunting ; are you going to use it mostly on land or mostly in and around water ? Both the Garrett and Whites have great deals right now. I can call you if yo'd like to discuss this further.

If you want it all....Coins,Relics and gold Go for the MXT. Might want something different if your going under water.

I would use it on land and beaches. I want it to detect kinda everything good.
