Other hobbies besides metal detecting

Ok I use the word "hobbies" loosely, I know it is well more than that for most of us, from a strong interest to a passion to a near obsession and everywhere in between.

That said, I am always interested to see what others are into.
I'm into muscle cars and guitars for a couple, I am a union carpenter by trade and make alot of things on CNC, here are a few examples.

I do make some pretty good $$ sometimes but often I make things because I can, and sometimes simply give things away, but its nice to take something you have in your brain and create it. My main materials are wood [of course] plexiglas and corian but use quite a variety besides that including metals, foams and all sorts of plastics.
Really digging the Son's of Anarchy and Buckethead one's.

Oh yeah thanks, those are nice I enjoy making those, think I sold the Buckethead ones gotta make some more, he has a devoted following and not much merch available

A couple more, these things are fun to make though I haven't figured out exactly what to do with them, I'd like to find someone who can paint these, I know I'd miserably fail at that especially the skin tones

That's some nice work on the powder-horn scrimshaw.

Impressive work aaronc, nice details.
I am looking for someone who might want to try detail painting one of my AI creations, painting is not a strong point of mine especially when it comes to things like flesh tones.

Thank you and those are pretty cool. My painting skills are probably unrefined, I just don't do much of it. You should try it. Lots of tutorials out there, you may surprise yourself.

I have a "regular" job and most people probably won't think that this is a hobby but I repair small engine equipment such as chainsaws, grass trimmers, leaf blowers, etc. To me it is relaxing and makes me feel good when I get something working again.

My brother did that also. He enjoyed working on those small engines.

Besides MDing, and bottle digging, I collect antique & transistor radios, records, windup phonographs, promo model cars, 1920s Jazz 78s....used to have some picture albums on the old forum, dk if they still exist or not. These days I am very active in the local history museum and I'm also an admin. of one of the local Facebook history groups, which, as you can guess, keeps me busy.

Still on a roll with these crazy things, I have run out of plexiglas so that'll be it till I get some more, my local supplier is about a 60 miles round trip.

Went with wood today and made use of this walnut slab I have had sittings around for quite a while and carved an arrowhead into it, its shape naturally lends it to the design. Not happy with the finish, am going to sand it down and try again. Knot kinda sucks but they are hit and miss, this one looks nasty but usually they are attractive, not much you can do about them.
Is large, probably about 2 ft x 1 ft, will make a nice wall hanger.
[Reason I didn't make it a little larger and use up more space is the wood really thins out towards the tip last couple of inches, if it was up any further it would have broken through and ruined the whole thing]

When I was younger I enjoyed drawing using charcoal and pencil, but gave it up because it was time consuming (maybe I was too picky). Then in my military years I spent time hunting, reloading, plus camping in September during the moose season (took some photos of the auroras during moose season too). A friend of mine had some troubles with his health, so we stopped hunting about five years ago. Other than metal detecting, a second hobby that stuck with me is photographing the Auroras, some wildlife, and mundanes photos of my family members, our pets, and so on. This one was taken a few years ago in September in North Pole Alaska

I was always a competitive shooter, I only quit that during Covid. in the 70's I was into muscle cars and fast bikes. I had a 68 Charger, a 64 Barracuda, and my favorite a 69 GTO. By the 80's I was into Muscle trucks with a 74 Chevy 4x4 shorted powered by a 454. That was a fun truck.
By the 80's I was building engines to keep my kids in hotrods. I gave that up when the tuning was all on a laptop.
My kids are now driving modern muscle cars like Challengers, Mustangs, etc... its all done with a computer now.

I'm just now starting on a 27 Model T project. About the only electronics it will have is a starter and head lights. it may not even get a radio.

Since I retired I have started carving wood. Mostly cane handles. I started carving eagle head canes for veterans but am branching out to other things now. I retired in 2019 and am just now getting to where I can carve faces that I'm happy with.
I took a class on carving faces and so far so good.
The wood carving I can do while traveling in our RV.
MD'ing I can also do wherever we travel. DR

I have several "hobbies" along with Mding- guns, stamp collecting, comic books (Silver age war genre) and scale model building. Its difficult with my boys ages 4 and 2!
