I would be interested in knowing, as far as pre - clad goes, what is the most found coin you dig, and please state the region you detect the most.

Mine is Mercury and Roosevelt dimes, next is wheaties. I would think wheats would top the list. I detect mostly in Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri.

I find a lot more wheats than I find silver dimes. It depends on the site, but I usually dig between 4 and 10 wheats for every dime, though there are occasional exceptions.

Wheats by far here in southwest Kansas. Oddly, I do find more mercs than rosies. I guess its not really that odd since they made more mercs longer than rosies.

Wheatbacks are number one followed by Merc Dimes. When I find an older coin (pre 1965) it is a good bet I was on an old fairground. I spend more than half my time there. Those spots are drying up and I need to get more permissions from property owners.

I've found 90 pre-1940 wheaties and around 200 from 1940-1958.
After that, I've found 58 Indian head cents and 48 large cents.
My highest silver coin total is 26 Mercury dimes.

Same for me, wheat pennies are the most common by 5 to 1 over silver dimes which are next in order of frequency. At the public parks I hunt in Colorado, wheat pennies and their most common depth are the indicator target that silver could be in the park. No wheats=no silver coins.

Quick story. Many years ago when I had my E-Trac I went to a spot an hour north of our home. It was at one time a fish hatchery and then became a park/event site. I was hunting close to the rivers edge when I got a strong penny signal that turned out to be a wheatie. As I put my detector down to dig I got another. This kept up for quite a while. This was an area about 25' in diameter, and when I finally finished I had 158 wheat pennies and two Mercs. Only thing I can say is this was probably pennies in a sawdust pile for kids at one time. Sure was fun.

Mine has been indian heads, but purely because of the sites I target. If I was detecting sites with more modern history it would certainly be wheats. It's simply probability, more were made, more often carried, more often lost. I suspect the reason you find more dimes is the signals you choose to dig, or that your detector likes the silver signals better than the copper.
