old wives tales

I've found a few fixes on YouTube before as well. The 1st time I knew of anyone finding a fix there was my daughter. She had a check engine light on in her car. I was trying to think of what to check to see why it was on , while she was in the car on her phone , she started flipping the , lights buttons and stuff and finally the light went off. She found the manufacturers sequence to reset the computer to turn off that light. I was impressed. So it definetly can be a useful tool.

Rain on Easter Sunday;
I don't know where I heard it :?:
but it's something like: If it rains on Easter Sunday,
the following seven sundays (7 weeks) it will rain.
I know it was true around here, in the spring of 2014.

batteries

my dad stopped over the other day and saw my 2 big marine batteries sitting on my cement floor while charging. after a stern warning on how that would ruin them, I googled it. he is wrong. look it up. its actually better for them. old wives tales. he was right 80 years ago. any others?

I heard the same thing from my dad, could never figure out why it would hurt them.

I told the air conditioner repairman my dog don't bite, next think i know my dog bit his ankle. My dog has never bite before , and i have to say the repairman was a bit of a tool.

Just be VERY careful from now on though, depending on the laws in your area you could potentially risk losing your dog if he attacks someone, at the very least they might quarantine him for so many days to be sure he is not rabid.

"If your dog bites a stranger, consider them a danger"

Totally trust the dogs on that one , the repair guy was a bit of a tool , i really needed the air conditioner fixed , but won't be calling him again. Seemed like a shady guy to me.

It's better to be on the safe side, especially when it is someone you are inviting onto your property, they have a reasonable expectation of being safe.

Maybe sometimes it might not be the person, they might have the smell of another dog on them.

Also, I think dogs can sense fear and wrongly perceive someone as a threat, regardless if they are shady or not.

Besides risking losing your dog, you also don't want to risk a lawsuit for medical bills.

Now if someone trespasses on your property without having a legitimate reason (mail or package delivery, meter reader, ect.) then they are entering at their own risk, especially if you have warning signs.

So it would be advisable to have a "Beware of Dog" sign at the entrance to your property as a fair warning.

Also maybe a "No Trespassing" sign and a "no solicitors" sign so door-to-door people trying to sell stuff realize they are not to come on your property.

I suggest there's a modicum of truth to the concrete floor/battery tale. It's just not detailed enough.
Don't store a battery on a cold concrete floor. Low temps are bad for lead/acid batteries, and sitting on a cold floor pulls a lot of heat out of the battery, thus decaying it's ability(s).
The truth suggests that the tale came out of someone, (or a bunch of someones), leaving batteries on an unheated garage floor over the winter, and most of them turning bad over that time.

Just my 2-pence.....Roger
Also, battery cases used to be made out of porous rubber, and even metal...acid leaked out and conductivity between the concrete and case would drain voltage.

I had a checkup at the eye doctor a couple years ago, my eyes are not bad enough that I need to wear glasses full time but need reading glasses for reading small print, etc. While I was there I asked him if I done any damage to my eyes from years of working with small electronics and other things that puts a strain on the eyes. He said no doing things like that actually strenghthens the eyes. He said that sitting to close to the TV will hurt your eyes is a myth also.

Putting up the beware signs is not a definitive defense if someone is bit. The sign could be used against you saying you knew the dog was capable of being a threat and you didn’t take every precaution to prevent the possibility of him biting someone. I’m no lawyer but I’ve heard this being used against owners before.

You can tell how harsh the upcoming winter will be by looking at a wooly bear catapillar..the black represents cold weather and snow, the brown represents mild weather... i found one in fall that was entirely black which would indicate a harsh winter... if the groundhog sees his shadow on February 2nd it means 6 more weeks of winter....... 3rd born resembles the milkman...

Wow, that is something else

I absolutely agree precautions should be taken other than just putting up a sign, but at least a sign should make people more careful to check and see if the dog is outside or not.
