I am new to metal detecting. Still trying to learn. I have permission on a private property where a house once was. I hunted it once for a couple hours but it seems to be trashy. I don't know how old the house was but I once talked to a lady who is probably around 70 and her grandparents lived in the house at one point. The house was gone once I became familiar with it but there was a small screened in structure that someone with tuberculosis slept in to help with breathing.
It was once a farm. I remember the barn before it was tore down a few years ago. I feel there is potential for coins but it seems that there is lots of trash to sort through under ground.
Looking to see if anyone is interested in hunting the area with me. I believe I could learn from someone with more experience how to hunt an area like this.
PM me if interested.

I used to hit these kind of places in levels. I'd start out with a very selective discrimination/notching so that my detector only went off on mostly coins. Then I'd turn discrimination/notching down a little at a time as my hunts started to find less, so as not to overload myself with trash and get discouraged. If you find a few good coins your interest will remain positive, and it will be a good thing.

Thanks I appreciate that. Feels like all I do there is here beep beep beep almost everywhere.
I'm still learning my machine ( vanquish 440).
I need to learn how to discriminate for coins. Your right, one decent coin would motivate me for more. It almost is overwhelming at first.

Welcome from CT to one of the best hobbies ever! Good luck with your hunts as you learn your detector.

Welcome from Maryland
You never said where your from.

If you are overwhelmed in the heart of the site. Try going to the outskirts of the site. There should be less targets.
Good luck

Hello TDM , hey just exactly what part of NE Oklahoma are you at ?? I am in Edmond ok. central ok. I will say that old farm sites are difficult at first especially if you’re new to detecting. The ML 440 is a very good detector. the V10 coil would definitely be need for trash ridden sites. If you know someone that actually lived there, maybe they could pencil out an opproximate layout of the farmhouse, out house, close line , burn pit , barn , etc. You would probably want to lower your sensitivity if you’re being bombarded by signals.
