I really enjoy this forum, I have been looking for something like this. Like I said, I am new, I have been using a Teknetics Delta 4000, but recently purchased a Vanquish 440. Do you think I will experience any better detecting results? I know the more expensive detectors would be better for one reason or another, but the Vanquish 440 was within my budget. I have watched MANY youtube videos, but what do you all think?

Thank you for your response. I have been interested in detecting for MANY years. To illustrate this point, my first detector, of which I still have and it works fine, was a Pioneer Bounty Hunter EX. I dabbled over the years in the hobby, then, I purchased a Teknetics Delta 4000 a couple of years ago and still dabbled, but more consistently. However, lately, I have been consumed with the hobby, watching videos, then I started looking around my area as I travel daily. I have a large river with an old fort, a large lake with camp grounds, about 1.5 hours from one of the most beautiful beaches on the gulf of Mexico, as well as a town within 20 miles that has a hughe historic district, with restored homes, from 1823. Not to mention the old schools. I am dive qualified, if this goes well, I thought about eventually getting a detector that is water proof to about 15 o 20 feet, to detect some of the natural springs we have around here that are used for canoeing.

Ha, you have to do what your have to do! I ride by myself during work hours, yesterday, I was driving home, and seen a spot that looked good, and turned around and cased the joint, with hopes of going back later. I have to keep a written list, so I wont forget. I would love to find old coins, jewelry, or relics, but I am NOT beyond accumulating clad coins, I have started a sorting system. 1 container for coins, and 1 container for trash. Guess which one is filling the quickest?

Dowright,

The 440 is a simplified Minelab Equinox. It uses the same renowned Multi IQ technology as the Equinox. Arguably, all simultaneous multi frequency detectors since the Equinox, use that same Multi IQ technology, or something very similar to it.

If you want coins, use notch discrimination and most of what you dig will be coins. If you want jewelry, you'll have to dig mostly trash.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a good plan. This hobby IS addicting for sure. I have had a boatload of hobbies in my 75 years on this blue marble, but this is the one I have stayed forever. Good luck on your permissions and the great finds you will be making.

That is a fine machine to start with. Carry spare batteries, it has an appetite.

You get the benefit of multi frequency in a pretty simple to use package.

Dust off your camera lens, you will be posting photos of great finds soon.
Great advice here! The Vanquish is a good little machine!

Thank you everyone, check out what I have this morning.i think I am close to a town from the 1780s. I didn’t know they had Bud Heavies back then, ha!

Just get out there and hunt with your 440 or an AT Pro and you will find some good stuff. More hours hunting can do you better than using an advanced SMF detector that often has quite a long learning curve. I am saying this from experience.
