New beach sand scoop

Never seen that before. Did you make it yourself ? The way I would look at it though is you got 6 years out of it. Not bad.
Water Hunting partner designed and made them in the hope when he retired he could sell them. Strange scoop and design, made so you could take it a part and replace the broken or worn piece. He gave out about ten of them to be tested, their are a few still alive, mine broke finally and I could have fixed them but Greg, the maker decided to park the diablo scoop project and stay focused on his government related work. He's yet to retire 13 years later.

I liked the scoop because it was Big.. lite and drained fast// Next to the 720..

Just looking at it you would think it would be weak but the thing made all kinds of noise when using it for it was made to flex.. which killed the Titanium. He made them in Aluminum and SS also.. SS was the best and seemed to out last all others.

Me neither. But I have found some tit rings that show signs of rust. Yes , supposed to be stronger than steel and I also believe that should make it more brittle. Though I have yet to see any of them shattering or breaking off in pieces. 🤔
Did you find those tit rings in pairs ??

Hey All, my bad on the corrosion issue. I misread an article I was reading. I neglected to see that Titanium gets an oxidization layer that protects it.

I would check with Phil, he can cut some great deals on most things.. And he is one of the sponsors .. https://www.myersdepot.com/

I think Stavr's makes a good scoop too, they run about 140.00 shipping maybe 25.? And that is no handle. I'm not sure if things are going well in Ukraine.. May message just to check in..
Hi, me and my family are fine.
but we are temporarily unable to hunt at sea ... ;)
Scoop v.22 is available on the website.

I still have 2 of them and managed to destroy one of the earlier stainless versions. I sent it back to Greg so he could see what the "Boulder Field" where I spent many hours waist deep, dodging waves and recovering loads of targets (Junk and Jewels) did to a scoop. The next two were stainless with a few mods that were enough to keep me out there for years without problems.

Last year I met Greg for the first time for a nice visit as he traveled on 95 North. It was a pleasure sharing info and swapping tales with him.

All has to do with how the Titanium is made and its intended use, the more oxygen the stronger, the stronger does not like movement and will break with continuous flexing. I've had two Titanium scoops made (2011), never rusted or any type of corrosion when used in saltwater. Both were made with Grade 6? ... .071 thickness/15 gauge, the same design scoop cracked in the same places after 6 plus years. Then I got a 720

I got the stuff when it was cheap.

Place with the most flex is where both cracked.

Back in the 1970's when I started water hunting I scrounged up some scrap stainless sheet metal and tubing and had a local welder build two scoops for me that I used for years. They were heavy, but got the job done!!

The one with the loop handle I called my "Poor Man's Backhoe" and did a fine job for me for lots of years!!! The other two I cobbled together for dry sand use.

They are retired since I was blessed with the opportunity to do "destruction testing of the Diablo"!!
