I was out enjoying a paddle in the great weather today, and found 2 bits of gold. One is a bit of a mystery to me, I knew it was old 14k by the red patina. It was a bright red when I found it with just a little gold shining through most of which rubbed off in my finds pouch. You can still see some in the first photo.
The second photo is after a light clean.

It easily passes the 14k acid test, but what the heck is it from?

WOW, that's unusual for sure. The hinge point, and the two I assume, broken studs in the middle make me think it is some sort of elaborate pin. I would think there is a missing clasp bar on top and maybe a hanging medal. Heck I'm stabbing at windmills here. It is cool and it is GOLD!:waytogo:

What a strange looking object. It looks like someone randomly soldered some stuff together.

I'm really looking forward to finding out what it is!

Looks like it was a pin at one time... here is a intact pin close to yours...

:dingding: I like the ring and the mystery item. I don't thing its for ties as those would me more of a clip (so as not to damage the tie). However. there ones that you actually poke a hole in the tie to hold to your shirt but they are usually small and round. I think it was a broch thingy.

I think you're on to it with the brooch. Looking closely I think there was a ball at the other end, a locking clip oppersite the hinge and something attached to those 2 broken points on the front.
The beach this came from was super popular in the 1920 - 40's so I bet it was some lady down there in a full "swimming gown" with this attached.
Man oh man has swimming attire changed since this was lost!

Gold! I haven't found any yet but that is always my reply when anyone asks what I am looking for.
