My toes are killing me!!! What to do?????

I have the same problem, I think! My toes have hurt for years since I did a home roofing project. Many hours of kneeling on my right leg (as I always do) made my big toe hurt whenever I do similar actions and bend my big toe in an upwards direction. 10 years later it still hurts and I believe I have injured it permanently somehow.
I have to bend and squat down daily in my job so I have tried to change my actions as much as possible. When necessary to kneel I place my big toe on the ground further back than needed and roll it FORWARD so the toes are curling down somewhat (not up!). Most boots don't bend well in this direction so it makes a firmer support and the toes seem to feel better after.
As mentioned good footwear is important! don't detect in cheep shoes!

Hope this helps you!

I've had Gout...In my big toe joint from drinking too much heavy Red Beer too fast after roofing a house one day...I thought I had busted my Big Toe joint from going up and down the ladder! So I kept on a drinking beer to numb the pain...By the end of the week, I couldnt put a shoe on! It was the most painfullest thing! I went to the doctor even!

So Now I only drink Light Beer, after sampling several offerings and doing some cost analysis, it seems Bud Light has little to no ill effects at all!...

I detect barefoot a lot, and that is favorable over shoes...I also bend down like a Giraffe taking a drink..Call it a 'Wide Legged Stoop'...My feet stay firmly planted and flat...my knees are bent, ankles too, my arms rest on my upper legs, my @ss end behaves as a counterweight like usual..Its a very comfortable and fast method of digging...you use your body weight to push a hole and not your arm muscles....

I had a Great Uncle who suffered from tremendous pain in his toes...'Bunions or Corns' or some kind of old timey ailment...The Story is, he took a hatchet and a block of wood and simply got rid of them one day...so thats an option as well....Feet are important...a guy cant hardly walk without them...

um

Sounds a bit out of the norm but have sufferd like that too....I just take my meds and instead of kneeling to dig a target I do it giraffe stlye. Hope it works itself out for you!

Try different shoes. Some are stiffer than others. The ones I currently use appear to be all heavy canvas but they still set my detector off. (I use that to see if my wireless headphones are still working) I can't see any metal or eyelets in them. The lug pattern also helps in telling where I have went before.

Well I wore my muck boots today and detected for 4 hours with absolutely any pain;) I'll just have to have hot feet until I can buy a pair of boots

Sometimes when I dig, I sit flat on my rear with my legs and feet tucked to each side, heels pointed straight up behind me. Very comfortable. Not for everyone though.

Frustrated at times, when I throw on my Chippewa Lineman's boot, get out swinging, get 'beeps' on every pass, and realize I put on my steel toes!

Try wearing flip flops.....they work for me.....LOL Actually.....never squat, always go down on both knees with you toes pointing straight back. Get a flexible pair of shoes. If the ground is wet get a kneeling pad for your knees. The trick is to get your toes to point straight back on the ground when you are kneeling. Just get comfortable

Keep your toenails trimmed?
