They were supposed to email me one as soon as I hung up with the repair center. I haven't received one yet. I'll email them here shortly and then I'm going to ask them to send me a picture of their Etrac they claim has the language option on the user menu.

That's a good idea. However, I won't resort to that until after they get my machine back to me. I don't need them holding it for ransom/sabotaging it if they see the chargeback while they have my detector.

I've got it set back up like I had it before mainly through button pressing muscle memory. Also, the Exchange program is in English which helps in setting things up too. I did kind of chuckle when I first turned it on and then was like, "Are you f'n serious???"
I just got off the phone with Minelab Americas in IL and told them about my issue. New Etracs do have the option of changing the language. The support agent I spoke with said that the main board they swapped into my machine should have had this functionality. I'm guessing since it's a board from a demo unit that it's older and doesn't have that option.

Don't think there is a way to have the language changed on the Etrac...I bet a used board from a German Etrac was installed.

I have heard that Minelab would do it in the past for $75. I'm not sure what all it entails though. I absolutely think a used board from a German machine was used. It really irks me that they would tell me on the phone that my detector wasn't like that when it left their facility.

No, I've never found ML detectors to be "sexy". I think ML woul dbe a prostitute. Ugly as sin and expensive, but just flat out gets the job done better than most can.

I would want the "fried" board back as well just to keep them honest. Also make sure the unit you got back was indeed the same you sent in.
Was a component level bench tech for years and have seen it all.
The fact the tech did not even power it up and notice it was in German might make some think he was a bit lazy or having a bad day.
Obviously the unit was not tested or "gone through " but just had parts thrown in it.

Yeah that was the first thing I tried and then tried it again with the tech on the phone. Apparently only newer Etracs have the ability to choose a language.
