multiple bogies....sweetness.......

Hey, let’s not forget the lightning rod tip! I have found two of them in the past and they made my day and are prominently displayed...

Great finds! That first pic is the dream pic.

Looks like the CTX missed a few.

washingtons......

I Luv those in-situ reveal pix ! I was totally expecting to see some bust quarters, since you're from the east coast. But ... alas.... washingtons ?? :?: Oh well, you made up for it with the IH and beautiful green patina

Yeah I was kinda bummed to see those come out of the hole at an 1850s house.....
After I saw the edges in the hole I grabbed my camera and started recording in case they were old..... after all the recording efforts sadly its not worthy of posting online.......(although, that's way more than I ever see R.R. digging in her vids, but hey I'm always gonna have 22 subscribers, and shes gonna have 15000:mad: )

And btw, and sadly for me, I am located well over 400 miles from the sweet east coast digging grounds........
I used to do a lot more digging trips in the last couple years.....out there is where I've managed my way older finds.....although I do manage an occasional matron in cellar holes around here......but no gold coins...

chart

I know you're just ribbing him about the GWs, but one thing I learned a few months ago when we did that unscientific survey of "hardest coins to find" was that silver Washington quarters are not as common as I thought. I found this surprising because I had dug a few of them within the first year of detecting...but all on private dirt.

A few decades of early metal detectorists cherry picking silver quarter and other big high conductor signals has made them relatively scarce today, particularly in public dirt.

Below is that summary I compiled from that discussion back in March. I think if more new and casual detectorists answered the survey you'd find that far, far fewer than 68% have found a silver GW quarter (and even fewer on did so on public dirt).

That's a pretty awesome chart you've compiled. I missed the original post.....
The percentage of folks the found silver dollars is absolutely staggering to me.
I'm not sure what criteria you had requested but I'd say if we are talking about detecting in the 2000s the number of SDs should be way lower than that......I'd love to see your chart expanded to include dates ....
Also the majority of folks who are posting stuff on this forum are pretty hardcore hunters I'd say.......

rod tip??

Is that what that is ??? I wouldn't have guessed....Its hollow and very thin copper!!!

Here's the original discussion of "hardest coins to dig" started by StiffWrists. All I did was total it up based on his original list. Of course, people who have dug more coins were more likely to speak up.

Still an exciting post! What a great picture. I have a Washington that fell out of a sand bank three years ago. Havent seen one since.

Off topic alert!
I’d like to see what they look like. I found something recently and maybe this is what it is!

Congrats on the great finds !

Another example of how true the old saying is ... "No site is ever completely hunted out" !

Anyway , crazy that you actually dug TWO of them!!! That's like lightning striking twice!!!!:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Yes, I believe a wooden rod is inserted into them (that's merely a guess); one of mine still has wood left inside. I found one somewhere around the third or fourth old house I ever detected and remember thinking I had some sort of spear tip!
