More Hints About A New Garret Release

Years back I was running a Minelab E-Trac. It wasn’t waterproof so when the AT Pro was released I eagerly bought one. Less than 6 months later just as eagerly sold it. The Garrett just didn’t compare to what the Minelab could do for me. Garrett seems to be playing catch-up all the time, if anything. I hope they surprise me but I’m not holding my breath.
I'd been running an E-Trac since 2014, and also wanted waterproof so in 2020 I bought an Equinox 800. Man what a disappointment after all those years with the "Silver Magnet" that E-Trac was! I've still got both of them but at the end of 2023 Minelab discounted the CTX3030 (I wanted one of them but couldn't afford it in 2014) so I finally got a CTX3030 and I LOVE IT!

My CTX is still my main squeeze.

Will be interesting to eventually see the unit.
You know. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this unit have a deeper waterproof rating than most of the competition.
Why do I say this?
Deus 2 remote design. It’s really not that complicated. Seems to be more about shape of the end caps and ends of remote. Shocking really to see how simple it is setup yet have 66 ft water rating.
Wonder if Garrett looked under the hood of Deus 2 remote? Hmmm
This may sound crazy.
I’ll bet I could take 5 Deus 2 remotes apart and put back together easily before I could take one Legend control head apart. Yet the Deus 2 has a substantially higher water depth rating.
Also Garrett is supposedly discontinuing the sea hunter, so the storm may be a p.i

Glad the CTX3030 is working out for you, I never tried one but I hear good things. I’m using the Nox 900 now and very happy with it.

Yep. Deep sucker. Watch sweep speed. Very good ID as well.

I had a CTX3030 for a short time and it was probably the best detector I've ever owned. Two problems are why I don't still have it. 1. It was so heavy and with my COPD I had very short hunting times. 2. Being retired and on a fixed income, I couldn't afford to have an expensive detector. Had to sell to pay my bills.

Back in the days when I still was working.

Lots of the h8trs will tell you it weighs too much or you have to swing too slow but I find it better balanced than my E-Trac even with the 17 inch coil on the 3030. I'm out there to relax so I don't swing any detector like I'm swinging a dull scythe, so it fits my style just fine. The GPS Suite is a fantastic tool as well. Here's a site that used to be a plantation in the 1850s and had a house on it until the 1960s. It was turned into a park in the late 1960s. I've made some INCREDIBLE finds in this park.

YESSIR! Love love love my CTX3030. I think my not being able to afford one back when I "settled" for an E-Trac (NO regrets on the E-Trac, I still use it from time to time) made me a better CTX3030 "pilot" once I did get one. Of course, Andy Sabisch's books on both machines helped tremendously too.

always wondered how the gps feature worked out and it looks like it does great. Never used it myself but if i had a spot like that it would be nice to highlight areas for future hunts.

It has days where it won't track exactly (very cloudy overcast or under dense foliage like the big Live Oak trees in some of our parks) but it does well enough to show you the areas you've hit and on some days it does amazingly well. I use it on every hunt and have used the waypoint feature in lieu of my MAPRIKA app a few times. I don't know why a GPS isn't in all "modern higher end" detectors now a days...

I have to agree. I confess myself disappointed in detector technology.

I have tried all the newest greatest flagship detectors, other than the Manticore, which I get the impression would be the same just different, and I find them lacking. Yes, color TV with remote control and surround sound is cool, but I can be happy watching a black & white movie, getting up to change the channel, and mono sound. For the detectorists new to metal detecting these new features are cool stuff, but not anything I can't do without. Although I am spoiled with wireless headphones. I swung my 50 year old 5000D yesterday and realized it wasn't really that bad at this point in my detecting adventures
Well said.....I'm finding the older I get (64) the more I enjoy my simple detectors.

Well my prediction for April 1st was wrong and the Russian guys prediction for April 5th was wrong

All Garrett has said is, "Coming this year". I sure hope we don't have to wait until December 2024!
