Legend Owners, I have a question

Even though the update went fine, I suggest you reinstall it, then reset to factory settings.
Also check your coil connection if you haven't already.

If none of the above works, then something is wrong with the coil or the control unit.

I just don't have patience for the nonsense, I am just going to return it if I can. If I cannot return it than I will try and sell it locally and let someone else bullsh!t around with it. I just don't have the time to keep testing this thing out every night to see if the update worked. Basic functionality should work out of the box regardless of any settings, updates, period, end of story lol. I gave Nokta a chance, and I regret it. There is a reason you pay a premium for a Minelab, their R&D is bar none. It isn't some dude in his basement engineering it like Nokta seems to be lol.

It kinda sounds like you just want to bash Nokta, what you just said about Nokta is BS they definitely do their research and listen to their customers unlike another Premium detector builders. You would think as someone who deals with computers you would have a bit more patience. Good luck in your journey for a good detector.

Whatever you say.

First, Nokta is at the leading edge of target imaging detectors with their Invenio project. It has a way to go, but true target imaging is the future of metal detecting. Induction balance VLF detectors hit their performance limit a long time ago.

Second, Nokta is renowned for high performing, high build quality, and lower cost detectors (especially the Legend)

Third, you can't even be bothered to take a few minutes to reinstall the latest software. With any detector that exhibits odd behavior after an update, it's detecting 101 to reinstall the update. You could very well have a corrupt install.

Jtracss, good luck with your search for a detector that better suits your needs.

I wish the Vanquish models were waterproof, especially the 540. They are setup really well for turn on and go for the majority of detecting uses.

I hate to see a frustrated detector user no matter what brand detector is being learned.

I also hate to see a good company like Nokta being blamed for a bad experience that may or may not be the detector's fault.

Good luck.

I wish the vanquish was waterproof too, maybe one day.

Here is thing, yes I am very frustrated, mainly because there are no instructions to assist me. There aren't that many videos on setup (I have watched every single one on youtube) the manual doesn't explain everything in great detail (especially the new features/updates added after the manual was printed). If I am doing something wrong I would love to know what it is, but where do I turn to? Who do I ask? I have no avenues if it is indeed a problem with the settings. I have read the manual cover to cover at least 12 times at this point, hoping that I missed something.

I called the store where I bought it and asked if they had avenues for me or have ever heard of this issue, her response was, she has sold many Legends and they should function out of the box without adjusting anything if not wanted on all default modes, which may or may not be true I don't know. She sent my video to her rep at Nokta to perhaps help with the issue because at this point I am desperate for any answers. It doesn't look like I am getting my money back so I will have to either figure it out, exchange the detector for a new one (if its the detector) or sell it locally to recoup a portion of my losses.

I don't know where else to turn to. I appreciate everyone's help that provided it, I really want to like the legend and perhaps one day I will get to enjoy the legend, but, until I some how figure this out I gotta move on. I will keep coming back to it when I find new answers or avenues to assist me.

The updated manual for any detector is found on the manufacturer's website.

There are many videos on YT on how to set up the Legend. Thing is, there are multiple ways to set it up, based on what you're hunting for, ground conditions, EMI, etc. There are also detecting forums like this, as well as a few Legend Facebook pages.

For the umpteenth time :), are you going to reinstall the update? If you reinstall the update and the problem persists, then there is a problem with the coil connection at the control unit, a defective coil, or a defective control unit. If it's the coil or control unit, then that would be very rare. I've never once read on any internet site, of a Legend or a coil that wasn't working correctly out of the box.

i reinstalled the update early today already, won't be able to test for a little while, but I have done it. I have the updated online manual already before hand, not much added but I read it twice. I will see if the second install of the update makes a difference.

Just got an email from the retailer, apparently Nokta believes the coil is bad and they will be swapping it out.. We shall see.

You should be able to see if the new install of the update fixed the issue by doing an air test.

If Nokta says they will swap out your coil.....you can count on it.

This happens sometimes with every manufacturer, which is just bad luck for the new user.

My first Legend had a bad system control unit which Nokta replaced under warranty.

I had a similar issue with an Equinox 600 bad control unit that Minelab replaced under warranty. Same with Garrett recently.

I hope they get you one soon.

I get it tomorrow, the retailer is swapping it out for me than sending my coil back to them. I can tell my machine is older as it came with 1.05. Firmware

So i went did some more testing tonight since i reflashed it again with the new firmware. Seemed to be performing better but unfortunately my night was cut short because the sound stopped working abruptly. I heard some units had this bad sound board/speaker issue where the speaker would just quit working. I guess mine is one of them. What are the odds. Now the whole unit will need to be replaced. Talk about bad luck.

I use the Mental Metal coin program too, but I adjusted coin break 3 from 27, and made it 29. That way I might also be able to find the fatty IHP which I read comes up as a 29 VDI on the Legend
