I will say I had a Legend once before but only got to use it a few times and had to get rid of it due to some issues.
Yesterday ordered another one and looking to get out hopefully soon when the weather here breaks and it starts to get nicer out.

I have been trying to do some reading and watching some You Tube videos to get some ideas on where to start with the machine.
I am more of a coin shooter and not really a relic hunter. I do have some old home sites I am able to hunt so coins will be the main thing.
With some of what I have read it looks like the Park setting is the best place to start. Also it seems like most like 6 tones.
What else should I look into starting with that will give me the best start with this machine?

I didn't watch the video, so this stuff might have been mentioned:

Use M2 for ideal iron unmasking. Use M3 for ideal nonferrous unmasking. M1 is between those and is a compromise.

Drop the Iron Filter down to 4. If you get too much or too little iron falsing, adjust that setting accordingly.

I've seen no performance difference between Park & Field mode. They even have the same default recovery speed and discrimination pattern. Note that changing some settings in one mode, may or may not change that setting in the other modes.

Also it seems like most like 6 tones.
The number of tones is just a personal preference. For example, I prefer to hunt in one tone for nonferrous with no iron audio, OR one tone for nonferrous and a low volume / low grunt tone for ferrous. Since I set up my detector to only tone on the targets I want, it's pointless to have multiple tones and I also find it's more distracting.

I've watched the video that hoser mentioned. All good info. Like Diga said to some extent, just make sure you're running V1.17. Stock settings are/have been great for me. Although it's been over 60 days since I detected last. Not that I am counting. M2 is my go to here in Michigan. I like gold mode in tot lots. 6 tones for me is best, the different tones let me discriminate more.

Good luck!

Factory default settings to start, but the number of tones is simply what you prefer.
Grid an area.
Park 1 - M1.
Noise cancel then ground balance.
Scan the area vertically, then horizontally.
Change to Field 2 - M2.
Noise cancel and ground balance.
Scan the same area on the diagonal at 45 degrees, then on the opposite diagonal.

Switch to the 6" coil, if you have one, and repeat.

Don't worry about the advanced settings until you're good with the default settings.

Thanks everyone.
Its not been great weather here at home. We have a pretty good bit of snow right now.
More than likely the first trim out with the machine will be the first weekend of march.
Have a free weekend so going to head to the lake and run the Legend on the beach some.

Read the manual a couple of times. Then, read it again. You've got a great detector there.

Can anyone give me some ideas for a beach hunt at a freshwater lake beach?
That will be my first trip out with the machine.
Working on getting a scoop setup done to make the digging easier.
Wont be in the water just due to weather and water temps and don't have my wader setup yet.
