Spotted a patch of dark soil in the field I was working in today, I investigated and found glass, charcoal, nails and pieces of bricks. I knew there had been a structure here at one time. I went back after work with my simplex and started a short hunt. the only non ferrous targets were melted aluminum and I thought maybe it was just a junk pile. I hit a 93 / 95 signal that sounded like another aluminum blob but about 6" down I saw a silver edge and it was a 1892 S Barber Half Dollar. My first Barber Half and only my second Half.

You’d better go back and have a much longer look around and outside of the burnt area by tens of feet as well. A pretty well known forum member started out in a similar way in/next to a field and it turned into one of the biggest strewn hoards we’ve ever seen here. It’s a thrill to find big silver because it’s so relatively rare to find, you did well to investigate!

WOW...that's the real deal of what this hobby is all about! Big Congrats on the Big silver!

Welcome to the exclusive & elite Barber half club. The monthly dues are quite reasonable. I accept paypal & venmo :friends:

I will go back. I found the borders of the burn site and found the Barber on just on the edge. Sadly I had to quit and get my taxes done.
