No rubbing?

thank you, when I find silver, I NEVER ever rub the coin to see the date, I just put it in a pill bottle I carry and rinse it off when I get home. So many people rub silver when they find it, and it is obvious when they show a coin with small scratches all over them. You really got to handle dug silver carefully

I have not found a silver coin yet, but definitly would like to keep it nice. Does rubbing with your wet finger really cause scratches? I try to find the date of every coin I dig and hope I am not ruining them (so far nothing to ruin).

yes rubbing with wet fingers will scratch a silver coin, it is ok to rub wheats, indians, nickels etc....they are a lot more durable. Silver is a softer metal and scratches very easy

the silver I just rinse under running water, the indians, wheats, I use a toothbrush, lil dish soap and water

I use the pro-coil all the time, he uses the 10x12 SEF, never changed coils

Wayne, have you read any of my threads from my hunting in Indiana the other week? Our poor soil will NEVER allow us hunting like the guys in Ohio and the midwest. They can dig stuff twice as deep as us and with more stability, better target ID and everything. It's a completely different experience hunting up there.

I found silver up there every day and found over 15 or so wheats in just a few days. Most of the coins were in the range of 7-11 inches. I dug an aluminum token at over a foot deep with the pro coil. I didn't even bother using the 6 inch except on my last hunt.
