Hi all,

I'm new to detecting and this board.

I just today got a Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 as birthday present to myself and played around with it in the yard. Not terribly impressed. Got a lot of false flags. I'm thinking of returning it and getting a Garrett Ace 250 instead.

Anyone have any thoughts on either of these detectors?

Thanks!

Welcome from South Carolina !!!! and Happy Birthday too !!!! :cake:

I'm not personally familiar with those models, but while you're waiting for other responses you can check out some youtube videos.

Usually you can find a video comparing 2 models, the closest I could find offhand was one comparing the Garrett 150 with the Discovery 2200 -

There are videos on the individual models also, just search youtube, here are a couple examples -

With my experience with both machines I will go for the 350 if that’s in your financial scope. It’s definitely a great machine for it’s money it hangs with my ATPro happy hunting. If you have any questions feel free. Good luck Marcuss

Both of them suck pretty bad. A guy from my club swings an Ace 250 and he’s lucky to hit 3 inches depth with his.

Best bet in this price range is a Teknetics Minuteman, which is a rebadged Teknetics Eurotek Pro. $149 from Teknetics with coupon code A1466 (Craig from Show Me Treasure’s Dealer code). There isn’t another $149 detector that will beat it.

For that price range i'd recommend a Tesoro Compadre over a Bounty Hunter or Ace 150/250. Lifetime warranty as well.

I use a Tesoro Compadre and BH tracker IV.

As a starting detector the 2200 will do great. I ran one of those for two years as my starter and it helped me learn the basics. Turn sensitivity all the way up, make sure iron is notched out. If you are getting a lot of falsing notch out through pull tab. There is no pinpointer so you have to do the X pinpoint (come from both directions until you hear it beep and mark the spot). It will always be in a 3-5 inch radius.

It will also beep if you swing too close to large metal structures like a chain link or playground equipment. Just dont get within a few feet of those. I found the depth on mine to be very good. I would hit quarters at 8-9 inches.

Doesnt matter what you get...Half a day dinking around in the yard is not long enough to learn the language of any machine, let alone what the dirt is saying...so....take a look at the NOX 800! Wireless Headphones!

Seriously, hang out here on the Forum, keep practicing with what you have...thats a decent enough rig to make you some nice finds and even some money..you just need to learn it and what this sport is all about...Took me a full year and over 10,000 targets dug to start understanding...The rig is just one small part of this...

Although, I will say, I avoid any rig running 9v's...I prefer the AA machines on account of the 'cost per target' dynamic...
