I have watched the movie at least 50+ times and cried each and every time. I have often wondered what ever became of those American Heroes who gave so much to our great country so all men could be free. And the adversities they endured. When I first read your post, I was overwhelmed with joy that they could finally be put to rest in a proper place with the respect and honor they greatly deserve. Thank you for all you did to finally TAKE THEM HOME. God Bless You!!!

That is really a great story. A find of a lifetime for a metal hunter. You never know what you are going to find when you head out to detect. You also never know if it will change your life. You don't expect that but then it happens. Thank you for sharing this.

Outstanding video there my heart goes out to all the lost and forgotten soilders that lost their lives for our country. How amazing it was to find thier lost bodys.

As a side note, when I first posted the finding, the Historical Marker Ceremony, etc. about this find, I was ridiculed for posting too many posts on this find.
This discovery, since the beginning, has always been a process in motion, as it still is to this day.
My only regret is that the main story of this discovery, had to be "locked" so that it could no longer be commented on, and has been buried behind a ton of other finds.
History as with the lost Soldiers, as I have experienced, cannot be restrained, nor buried forever.

God bless you Robert, for making sure these men, who gave their lives for our country, will be remembered and honored for years to come. It truly is a story that should be told.. again and again.

As a CW Re-Enactor myself, I Thank You for the service that you preformed for these gallant men.
I was re-enacting back when Glory (and before kids, LOL) came out. We did a re-enactment on a beach where we built a small sand/earthen fort and placed some cannons in it. The 54th was there & we all got to meet on the field of honor. It was my 1st experience of what we re-enactors call a “Magic Moment” where you get caught up in the action and forget this is not real combat.
On a side note, as I live in CT Col. John Lyman Chatfield of the 6th Connecticut, gave the 54th the right hand side of the battalion (a post of honor). I have visited his grave and it is very fitting.
I truly believe that when you cross over, they will be there waiting for you to give you your proper thanks.

Chatfield was made a Colonel in the Union Army at the start of the American Civil War. He was made commander of the 6th Connecticut Regiment. In July 1863, he was ordered by General George Crockett Strong to attack Fort Wagner in co-operation with Haldimand S. Putnam, Quincy Adams Gillmore, Robert Gould Shaw, and Truman Seymour. While leading his men in an attack on the Fort's front, he was mortally wounded. He was pulled out of action, and returned home to Connecticut. Unfortunately, he died of gangrene that was developing in his wounds, after arriving on August 9.

Robert, Thank you so very much for posting this for us all to see. It is certainly benefitting that these brave soldiers have been laid to rest in their final resting place with the dignity and honor they deserve. I can only imagine the feelings and emotions that you have experienced by being such a big part in this. My sincere thanks again.

Found on private property, with owner permission.
The tract of land where they were found was being turned into a development. They were bulldozing a new road, and that is where I found the remains.
Here are some pics of the bulldozed road where the soldiers were found, along with a shot of the actual excavation, an some of the artifacts that I detected at the site.
