It’s all getting to be too much

Same!

Still, I can understand how some people just want to experience the joy of discovery while knowing little to nothing about the detector they are swinging.

...just can't relate to it at all :D

While you guys are oohing and ahhing about the inner workings us old school guys and finding the gold in the water....

Haha :D , well I'll have you know that knowledge is worth more than gold to some...

But I do genuinely believe that having a better understanding of physics helps me out in the field. Even just understanding the incredibly simple concept of the Superposition Principle gives you so much practical understanding as to how a detector will behave when multiple objects are under the search coil.

Do you know the engine displacement in the car that you drive daily? Torque, horsepower at the back wheels, etc? Same could be said about the cars we drive, just enjoy the ride with knowing nothing about what your driving

"I like pushing buttons and i cannot lie" I tried showing a few at my beaches how to mash buttons and realized i was just hurting myself. After using a DFX and V3i a lot of these button detectors aren't really that hard. But in the end if you cherry pick some places, some newby digging behind you who is green and digs the oddball stuff digs up some really good stuff you thought was junk. I tried an excal inland and hated the thing. But at the beach that is a different story. Still though even the non beach hunters on youtube who try to train you how to beach hunt with an excalibur don't even know about the knobs not lining up and potentiometer variances. So are they really knowledgeable in mashing buttons or lust for youtube $?:?:

Well actually, I know a heck of a lot more about internal combustion engines than just the things you mentioned. It's not necessary to know those things to enjoy my car, it's that I prefer to know. It's just a personal choice. Nothing more.

Does learning the science, engineering, and physics behind how detectors and their coils work, allow me to get better use out of my detector? The answer is absolutely "Yes!".

I used to try to build mine to pass everything but a gas pump. Today that stuff is for rich people:roll: Cost of a double pumper carb is about the same as 3 weeks of gas:lol:

I don't own a car :D I do know how my eBike works.

But I understand your point, as I said, I can understand why people just want to experience the joy of discovery :)

I have several ebikes. The FB ebike groups get entertaining quite often. I restore the old lee Iacocca EV globals if you know what that is.

Buttons, screens are a waste of time to a water hunter.... and I thank you for leaving the gold you don't want or need to a scavenger like me who is in the hobby to score the gold... only thing important to me is doing my research on spots to find the gold and having a set it and forget it detector...

I guess it's different for me,been at this along time and have used all machines pretty much to date. I actually use them tho,I don't sit around with a few old square nails and a coin trying to figure out a scenario I might not ever walk across.
It usto be discrimination was a bad word, but machines in the last 8 years or so can discriminate without loosing depth or getting a clipped signal.. Being a coin hunter I run my disc up, not notch..So all these endless settings we all have a greater chance of screwing it up than without them . Yea,I did say everyone, no matter how tech savvy you think you are your probably on a adolescent platform when trying to understand these machines like the engineers who built them

Agreed. Discrimination and ID have become extremely accurate.

I cringe when so many people tell a newcomer looking for coins in a trashy park, to "dig everything". You might as well tell them that by digging all, they won't be metal detecting, but rather trash detecting.

I’m sitting here looking around, flipping through you tube videos ,,,watching all these new releases out and ones that have been out..And I’m just as lost as 2 blind lesbians in a fish market.
I mean it’s endless settings and menus anymore, iron bias this, radio check that... Hell, after I run through all the menus and settings my minds fried,I forgot why the hell I'm even in the field or how I got there.
I’m a dirt hunter..I can take my original Deus, put it in basic 1,,run the disc Upto 88 and sens Upto 95 and just cherry pick deep coins all day long and never dig any junk. That’s it,no other settings and I’ll bet I can hit every coin these other machines find after they’ve set everything up for optimal performance...
Anyone else seeing this ?

The Deus is complicated, I am surprised you own one?

If you were at a saltwater beach I would tell you to dig it all... these detectors can still be fooled even the top ones if one is hunting for gold... just hunting gold numbers may have you miss out on 10k gold as it can come in the penny range depending on the metal make up of the target...

As to park hunting... it would be a cold day in hell before I ever hunted a park

I only hunt permissions...when I get the urge to dirt hunt.

I gave up hunting in parks. Even with cherry picking, it's mainly corroded clad pennies, and silver has become rare.

What's even worse though? Trying to find gold rings in a park. At that point, you might as well open your own foil, pulltab, and general metal trash recycling facility.

Nothing complicated about turning it on,running the disc up and start swinging. I cannot get the same park performance for coin hunting from the Deus 2,Legend or the nox as I can the Deus 1 with that one simple adjustment..
And I like the equinox, not knocking it at all. But from the box it’s not as powerful or easy as the Deus 1 for simply turn on and go.

Took a friend out who asked If I could help him find deep gold. He learned the Nox reads iron on targets to deep for it ID. Listen as
he admitted it maybe best thing to "Dig it all". (2:35 into the video) And this guy is a long time Noxer & Principal engineer for Godard space flight center in Maryland.

And my Excalibur does the same, deep faints in all metal .... sometimes give nothing in discriminate, a scoop and than a Null (Iron) another scoop or two than I get a broken disc tone..another scoop than I get a good signal/tone. Knowledge n Confidence.. no matter the source, .. no matter the machine.

I agree, I only land hunted about a year..never found one gold ring in the dirt. I have to give those credit who do find them in parks and land sites..
