HOW MANY HERE HAVE LYME DISEASE?

Had it three times in the last ten years. Still fighting my latest bout from September. Serious arthritis in my shoulders right now. Knew I had it when my heart starting skipping a beat every few beats! That happened the second time I had it as well. Very scary when that happens.

I've tried many different bug sprays, but they don't seem to repel 100% of the ticks. I always take a shower after spending time in the woods and look for any ticks attached to my body. Also toss the clothes I was wearing in a plastic bag and wash them ASAP. But I think the problem is that I live in a wooded area and get them from walking around my yard. Can't put on bug spray 24/7.

Seems odd that they can spray for EEE to control mosquitos, but they do nothing about ticks carrying Lyme disease, which is doing serious harm to a lot of people. There must be a way to cut down on their population. They're getting totally out of control now...

14 years ago the bug gave me Lyme disease and one called Babesiosis. At the time I lived in Connecticut, just a few miles from ……….. Lyme. The good news is the doc said I’m immune now. Immune from Babesiosis anyway.

Got lucky , they are here in Delaware also , pick a few off in time within the past 8 years , my dad had it , he worked on golf courses / super intendant , those golf courses always had deer on them , also between snow birding to Florida sun & working on the golf course , he got some skin cancer , smoking since age 13 quitting at age 60 , chewing the Nicorette gum for 4 years , he still got lung cancer , dead at age 70 , the Lime didn't take his life early , while his brother lived till 86 , I here lime is nasty , I have deer here on my property , I don't want to get it , nor covid , This should kill those hard to see deer ticks , smaller than a grain of rice https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Produ...1-1-5190daf0-67e3-427c-bea6-c72c1df98776&th=1

Sounds rough. At my age I have so many aches and pains I wouldn't know the difference. I agree though, that if they can spray for skeeters, they should be able to for ticks.
Remembering back to when I was a kid going to the drive in or a campground. A truck would go around and fog the whole area. Remember good ole DDT? Now when I hunt I spray only my clothes and boots. Get home and shower then inspect myself. Believe me inspecting a body like mine is no fun.:dontthinkso:

Had a case in 2011. Knee swelled up and very painful about late Dec. 2011. I had no idea what caused it. I saw my GP who had me tested for it and it was positive. Only then I remembered finding an embedded tick on my leg in mid November. The doxycycline took care of it, but it was about two months before the knee was close to normal.
I just had another bite in Sept., but called my GP immediately and got a prophylactic dose of doxy (2 pills). Blood tests were negative for an infection but showed antibodies from previous case.

A little off topic, but there's a (conspiracy?) theory that Lyme disease in the US was a result of Army research into tick-borne diseases as a type of biological warfare. I have no idea if this is true, but if you want to read about it, google "Plum Island". The idea was that infected ticks could be dropped on concentrations of troops. Not intended to kill, but disable. A disabled troop is more disruptive to a fighting force than a dead one.

I had it about 2 years ago, classic bullseye, rash and swelling on my shin. I have a lot of deer on my property, I try to keep the grass and weeds cut low. So far I’ve had no lasting effects.

I had ehrlichiosis in May. Really knocked me on my butt. 104 fever, teeth chattering, body aches, dead tired, white blood cells and liver function all messed up. Luckily my wife is a nurse and she recognized the symptoms early. Two weeks on antibiotics and a few more weeks to recoup and I got through it. I’m a magnet for ticks, they just love me, and I live in a Lyme hot spot. So far I’ve dodged Lyme. 🤞🏻

I've been bitten many times, fortunately have not had or gotten Lyme disease. Some ticks are insanely small, they could easily be mistaken for a mole, freckle, or skin tag. Always check yourself good, and when your done checking yourself, do it again to be safe!

I’ve heard the same. Coincidently, Plum Island isn’t far from Lyme Connecticut, the town the disease is named for, where the first cases were diagnosed. 🧐

My grandpa worked for the city and drove the fog truck at night in the small town where I grew up. That is how he made some much needed overtime pay. Kids would ride their bikes in the fog for fun. I got to see him mix the chemicals up and ride with him a couple of times. He sprayed the whole town. If I remember correctly, I think it was a combination of ddt and diesel fuel. That stuff really killed the mosquitoes. It brings back some great memories. Oh, no air conditioning in the fog truck. He drove the one garbage truck the city had during the day. No fun riding with him in the garbage truck. It stunk too bad and the flies were terrible.
Again, in those days, no a/c in the garbage truck.

Those are the good memories, just plain everyday goings on. We had a/c it was called sleeping on the porch at night. Sometimes we would even make a fort, oh the memories.

I have had Lyme a few times here in CT. I had to have 5 dogs put down because of it through the years. I have been using Sawyer Permethrin on my clothes for the past 15 years and it kills ticks dead in about 5 minutes. My buddy and I have gone through areas where our pants were covered with Adult and Nymph deer ticks. We just let them stay on until they start letting go and fall off backwards. No tick has ever even made it to my knees. I spray all my hunting clothes with it and just let it dry. It definitely lasts for 4 washings in cold water because I tested it. I spray my gear every time anyway just to be safe. It's safe to use on dogs but not cats because they lick themselves. I use it on anything connected to the outdoors made of fabric right down to the seats and carpeting of my Jeep. I haven't seen a living tick on me in 15 years. That is a great deal on Amazon Thanks for the reminder! I'm down to my last bottle.

There are so many great things that kids growing up now will never experience that they should experience. When I was in elementary school, the concept of a subdivision was just coming up in our region.

Here's my experience

Contracted it about 13 years ago. Doctor gave me a series of pills, and now, with each yearly check-up, I have blood taken to test for a recurrence of “Borreliose.” I never experienced any symptoms except the classic red ring around the tick bite. I live in Germany, and while there is Lymes disease here, so far, no AGS that I am aware of. Thank GOD, as I love eating meat. 😂
