How many D2's and Manticores bought yesterday?

I wonder if yesterday wasn't a nice sales bump for D2's and Manticores? I know two guys that have both been looking to upgrade for ahile and were both watching to see what Garrett dropped. They both ordered Manticores yesterday. I actually ordered one of them from Bart, for my buddy because he doesn't own a credit card. Killer deal with the M8 and M15 included. He's upgrading from my old XLT and he's going to love his new machine.

Probably not as many as one would think. After the initial rush, I don't think high end detectors sell as brisk as some might think. I think that's why you see the combo packages and or reduction in prices.

EDIT: BTW, I'm jealous of your friend who doesn't have a credit card.

Oh, there's no question high end sales are much slower. Many large retailers won't even stock them in store - plenty of Nox, but no Manticore. My sample size is tiny and therefore very possibly irrelevant. Just, both the guys I personally know, that were waiting to see, went ahead with high end purchases yesterday. After they saw. Could have been a noticeable bump, from like minded buyers? For the most part, people who are looking to get the Vortex aren't the same people looking to get a D2 or Manticore. Just some of them were hoping, just maybe on Garrett. But, not.

Like I said. Unless these upgrade provide something new and useful that doesn't already exist in the market I'm afraid Garrett is only going to sell these on their name and to people new in the hobby or maybe a back up machine. Some will buy them just because but unless it provides something new at that price that competes with the Legend it's going to be a hard sell.

Yikes is all I have to say. Garrett has definitely lost MANY customers due to their lack of ingenuity and competitiveness in the hobby metal detecting community. Most of us saw this coming, they want a piece of the proverbial middling SMF pie. This tells me personally all they care about now are the numbers, not the consumer. Sad, was really hoping Garrett had an ace up their sleeve (no pun intended)

Enjoy that Manticore! That is by far the best Detector on the market right now! It is what I personally swing! With the 2 free coils special we have with it you can hunt ANY condition or place! LOVE the M8 coil!

Just bought an M8 and WM09. Too hot to be out if not in the water so haven't tried the M8 yet. Agree on the Manticore, best I've ever used.

Bought Garrett, looks like fun.

Had D2 little while, powerful but not fun.

Manticore, powerful but doesn’t look like fun.

Unless you’re factory or rep, you don’t really know what’s going on in there, only vague description.

I don’t want to spend time experimenting. Fun at first … not so much.

Hopefully, less power but more fun.

Every detector has a set of presets no thinking just select what makes you think Garrett's presets are any different .sube

It appears that Garretts filters are right on the screen.

Some need to push the limits. Some like to tweak, I get that.

What do those “presets” on the D2 and Manticore do? Nobody really knows unless you have direct ties with the factory. When does one filter act against the other?

If you need to push the limits, you need to do a lot of testing with only vague documentation.

I’m done with that ambiguity game. I need facts to deal with.

But I might be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire …

Who cares the machine is PROVEN and works I don't have a problem operating it . But I am not a fan boy to any detector I use what WORKS. I don't design them I use them . sube

I'm with StanTheManStan on this one. The D2 is powerful, but it's not been fun for me (at least not yet). Too many under-documented settings that, like he said, I don't know when upping one counteracts another. I've learned more from Rattlehead's posts than anything out of XP. So, the Vortex's simpler setup would be welcome by me. sube, you say you don't have a problem operating it, but perhaps you are more experienced than me or the segment of folks that the Vortex is targeted to.

You don't have to touch the settings on the D2 the Factory settings are more than enough.

There’s no right answer here unless you have to push the limits, then you only have a few choices.
This is just a matter of personal preference.

Ahh. Agreed. But then: if I'm going to use the factory settings on the D2, how's that better than the Vortex (where supposedly I can't change as many settings)? Just playing devil's advocate.

Anyway the point I was trying to make but didn't was that if it's not fun, it's not a hobby - it's a job. So I was agreeing with StanTheManStan on that point. Learning the Apex was fun. Learning the D2 has so far been a job.
