How can Rap be called music?

Tom MacDonald also produces all of his own music which is why he gets no credit from the music industry because he makes money for TOM not for THEM. You have to love THAT even if you don't like him. Me I grew up on country but still was into Southern Rock and blues. It's all fuzzy now but somewhere between 1983 and 1993 Country music for me died a slow death. That's not to say there hasn't been a song or two that hasn't been good. It's just that you can't tell who's singing the song when they all sound alike. Thanks to Stevie Ray the blues made a comeback. Blackberry Smoke is almost singlehandedly keeping southern rock around. As far as Rap. It never was my thing. It's probably a good thing though in that I'm lucky that my Tinnitus is a higher pitch frequency that I can mostly ignore unless it's quiet. I couldn't live with that driving bass tinnitus that I suspect rap fans will have to live with.

As far as being offended because of what someone else does or doesn't like. There are just no words to describe how little sense that makes to me. I'm the youngest of 9 kids, I got over being offended at ANYTHING at the age of about 3. I can still get pissed off from time to time but the older I get that's even becoming less and less as the state of the world would have me pissed ALL the time. God forbid one kid tell another they got COOTIES.

I like all sorts of music including metal and classical. Some favorites for me are Iron Maiden, Abba, and "heavy" lol, overtures and symphonies. I'm not a fan of most rap, but I do like some. I also like some classic country music, but I despise that newer country / pop crapola.

Also, that "LIVE on stage in a 1965 Andy Williams show". Well, it's a beautiful song with a great singer, but it doesn't at all sound live to me. Sounds pre-recorded to me

Here's a "real" live performance of one of the best metal songs, and from one the best metal vocalists and bands. Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name".

I 1st saw Maiden back in 85 on the Powerslave Tour. Best band ever, all of them are talented. Their concerts are legendary and so full of energy.

I stopped listening to them when Bruce left and got back into them after he came back. Blaze was ok but Bruce is the voice of the band.

What I don't get is why non Rock and Roll groups get inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame.

Good thread... I liked heavy metal, still do.... but I also will listen to rap as my employees who were young listerned to it in my truck... I listen to a Candian rapper today he raps about real things going on in the world... that was the original reason for rap.. he is a independent and isn't afraid to spit the truth... I don't listen to rap but I am offended by this thread posting. No one cares but at no time would I post that I don't like other types of music. How about not singling out of genre? You are a admin so I guess you can do what you want. This kind of posting leads to unnecessary drama and racial comments...my two cents.

I totally agree that Bobby Hatfield's rendition of "Unchained Melody" is nothing short of GREAT. A classic of all time for sure. However, i' have to disagree that back in the day some of the audiences were NOT sitting there quietly listening to the show. In 1964 I went to a Beach Boys concert in Providence, R.I. and all during the performance the crowd was so loud you couldn't hear the music. Again in 1964 I went to the same venue in Providence to see the Rolling Stones live on stage and it was worse. The crowd was screaming, throwing various items at the Stones, and many were trying to run up onto the stage to try to touch them. After a very short time a show promotor walked onto the stage and warned the audience to behave properly but to no avail. After the fourth song he came out again and said that if the bad behavior didn't stop the show would be stopped. The crowd kept doing what they were doing and as the Stones were doing "Heart of Stone, only their fifth song of the night, the show was stopped.

I love all music. If I had to delete any it would be gangster rap due to the violent nature, and opera just because I don't understand what the heck they are saying. Yes, 60's rock is still my go to music to listen to. Growing up in the 60's you had to have stereo to get the best listening pleasure. My stereo was pretty sophisticated for the time. I had two of these, one on either side of the room Just had to get the same station tuned in right..

I agree with you on both counts. Fortunately for us, Jay Black of Jay and the Americans, who was classically trained as a Cantor and opera singer, opted to go the Rock 'N Roll route. Here is Jay singing Cara Mia.

I remember ( I was 9 or 10) hanging with some older kids watching the Ed Sullivan show. The Rolling Stones came out and played Let's spend the night together and I thought, "What is wrong with this guy? Mick Jagger jumping around and making crazy faces like he did.
